Hi, I'm Mitchell! I graduated summa cum laude in Statistics from Utah Valley University (3.94 GPA) on a full-tuition Presidential Scholarship. In 2024, I received my department's Student of Excellence award, given to one student per department each year, and I co-authored two published research papers with a professor, writing all of the R code. Today, I work as a BI developer analyzing data to detect fraud, so I can show you how statistics is used in the real world.
For two years, I tutored at UVU in drop-in labs and one-on-one appointments, both in person and online. Most of my students were in introductory statistics and often left class confused by formulas and jargon. My strength was boiling lectures down to the essentials, like what a z-score or t-score really tells you, or what a hypothesis test actually decides. Once those ideas clicked, everything else fell into place, and students soon began asking for me by name.
My approach focuses on the big picture rather than grinding through isolated problems. Instead of doing the work for you, I ask guiding questions that help you find the answer yourself. This builds real intuition for why a method works and when to use it, so you feel confident on the next problem and the next exam. I am patient and happy to explain an idea several ways until it makes sense.
I tutor AP Statistics, college statistics, and undergraduate math such as college algebra, covering topics like probability, distributions, confidence intervals, and hypothesis testing. I also love teaching R, from cleaning data and running analyses to making plots and debugging code. Bring your biggest questions to our first session and we will work through it together!
