My name is Esti (they/them). I’ve been tutoring college level math for 5+ years at a campus tutoring center. Here I worked with up to dozens of students a day, hundreds each semester. I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Applied Mathematics from University of Utah in 2023. Classes I’ve regularly tutored students for include Trigonometry, Algebra, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and Foundations of Analysis. I’ve worked with students who are looking for supplemental help with an online math course. I’ve guided students over the summer with preparing for their first college math course. Beyond the subject itself, I also help students with test-taking strategies, time management, and using their calculators.
What can you expect from working with me?
I aim for an encouraging and engaging environment when tutoring students. A frequent comment I get from students I work with is that they don’t feel afraid or embarrassed to mess up a problem when working with me. It should not feel like walking into a lecture. My first and most important priority is getting to know the student. Getting to know expectations and needs and developing a game-plan from there. This can include me providing personalized notes or handouts I make that cover subjects in whatever style we find works best. Anytime I explain a concept or work through a problem, I’ll have the student explain it back to me. I have years of drawing experience that many students find extremely helpful when trying to learn visual concepts. Never be afraid to ask me to draw out what I mean. I love it.
