Bio

I have an English undergrad from SLCC, and I'm currently working on my Bachelor's at the U. I recently received my TESOL/TEFL certification, which allows me to teach English as a Second Language. I'm a well-read, lifelong fan of the English language, especially rhetoric; I'm an avid reader of fantasy and fiction novels, and a passionate creative writer.

Before my academic career, I served a two-year proselytizing mission in New York City, where I mainly spoke Spanish. During that time, I taught English as a Second Language and studied aspects of Spanish and English to improve my skills in both languages.

More recently, I worked as a youth mentor for at-risk, neurodivergent teenagers from ages 12+ in a mental health facility. I've also held two different positions as a life skills coach for adults with disabilities and processed intakes at a homeless shelter.

These experiences, combined with my education, have helped me develop a teaching style that is authoritative and responsive to my clients' needs. I believe that meeting my client where they are is the most effective way to take them where they want to go.

Creative Writing

Creative Writing

Creative writing is by far my strongest writing discipline, and I have practiced it seriously for years through intensive character development, world-building, scene work, revision, and craft study. My academic background in English Studies has given me a strong foundation in language, structure, close reading, and feedback. I specialize in helping students build the foundation of their narrative by generating premises and characters that reveal their inner world. I also help students strengthen plot, voice, dialogue, point of view, and revision strategy so they can turn promising ideas into clear, compelling stories.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

As a creative writer, I study affixes and etymology in my free time. My familiarity with these aspects means I can teach clients roots and rules that help them unlock new words for themselves. Meanwhile, my own extensive vernacular and intuition for pronunciation helps me break down and define difficult words.
