Teaching has always been some part of every job I've ever had, magic has always been a part of my teaching. I’ve used magic as an object lesson to prove or demonstrate a point. I’ve used it to catch the attention of the students. I’ve used it to tell a story and in so many other ways.

I’ve done four of the five jobs I dreamed of when growing up, including a nuclear mechanic in the U.S. Navy, computer programmer, professional magician and teacher. I had wanted to be a lawyer but lost interest because I fulfilled the fantasies of that career elsewhere
(performing, magic and logic, programming and teaching). The current combination of College Professor and tutor is the perfect combination of all of my dream jobs.

I've been a web programmer since web programming has been a thing. All of the foundational technologies for web programming (HTML, CSS, JS, PHP, MySQL) have been in my repertoire since their inception.

I've been a teaching / trainer my entire professional career, and absolutely love working one-on-one with students and seeing the lightbulb come on, or the look of joy on their face when we "find the bug."

As a student, your impact on the world matters. Speaking as a retired magician, "astonishment" in magic vernacular is a feeling of wonder you impart to your audience. In the non-magic world, I believe Bill and Ted (in “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure”) summed it up nicely when they said, “Be excellent to each other.”
