Hi, I'm Valerie! I'm a recent bachelor’s degree recipient from UC Irvine. During my time in college I tutored graduate students with their English language skills and prepared them for the TESOL exam to become successful teaching assistants at the university. I also had the privilege to participate in an incredible internship where I taught high school students about globalization and international relations in their classrooms in a bilingual setting (Spanish and English). I helped the head teacher prepare them for their essays and weekly tests during class as well. Both of these opportunities prepared me for ESL instruction to foreign elementary and high school students at an international K-12 summer camp and while abroad in Italy. Prior to these opportunities I participated in a year of service abroad in El Salvador and had the privilege to teach ESL with correct English grammar rules and spelling to a variety of age groups.
Most recently I've had the privilege of teaching Pre-K level children in an in-home setting. I am also experienced in teaching autistic children with developmental delays and other health conditions. I am always looking to learn about better ways I can teach my students the skills they need to be successful in their language acquisition journey.
I have been an English tutor through a competitive program at my university and I have participated in exams to certify graduate students to teach at the university level. I have tutored for English for three years in the United States, Europe, and Central America.
I am a native Spanish speaker and I am an intermediate Italian student. I have lived abroad in countries where both languages are spoken, thus I teach the language in an authentic manner and with clear communication skills in mind. I have three years of Spanish tutoring and two years of Italian.
