About Yvan

Bio

I've been helping students succeed in math since 2010.
I started tutoring in high school and very quickly fell in love with teaching.
I love seeing the excitement build in my students as they not only begin to understand, but also enjoy a subject that they used to dislike. I love witnessing that "Aha!" moment when a student comprehends something that previously made no sense to them for weeks or months (or sometimes even years).

It did not take long for me to decide to pursue a college...

I started tutoring in high school and very quickly fell in love with teaching.
I love seeing the excitement build in my students as they not only begin to understand, but also enjoy a subject that they used to dislike. I love witnessing that "Aha!" moment when a student comprehends something that previously made no sense to them for weeks or months (or sometimes even years).

It did not take long for me to decide to pursue a college degree in Math Education.
Unfortunately, by the end of my degree, I realized that teaching in the classroom wasn't for me. I didn't realize how much time I would spend doing tasks that didn't involve actually teaching! (grading papers, meetings, classroom management, etc.)
I much prefer tutoring, where I can spend more of my time actually doing what I love.
So I decided to become a full-time tutor. That's good news for you, because that makes me one of the most flexible tutors you'll find--

First tutor ever and first time with Yvan who was great!

Yvan got right into it with my son and really used the hour to tutor and teach. He checked on knowledge/understanding at the start so he know where he had to dig in and what my son already knew. My son was resistant to a tutor but now realizes this is basically a one on one session with a teacher or a study buddy to help ensure he knows the material.

This guy is a math genius!

He's helping my boys in their respective classes of AP Calc AB and Honors Geometry. I am impressed that he can pick up at any point in a lesson with tips and strategies, and his patient demeanor has helped their confidence. Also, he is extremely flexible.
