Bio

Math doesn’t have to feel so overwhelming! I love finding the simplest explanation that makes it click.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from BYU and have about 15 years of tutoring experience, including my work as a one-on-one math tutor employed by Utah Valley University. I tutor high school and college students in Algebra 1 through Precalculus, and also offer elementary math, prealgebra concepts, and ACT Math preparation.

Whether you feel lost, need to catch up, or want to get ahead, I match your understanding, goals, and pace. We can slow down to build a foundation or move quickly when you’re ready for more. Want an extra challenge? I’m happy to push your thinking and pace while making sure you understand!

I ask questions and really listen to your thinking to find what you know, where you’re stuck, and which explanation works for you. I demonstrate an example, guide you through another, then let you take the lead. When remembering steps is difficult, we can practice one step at a time before putting it all together.

I bring energy, encouragement, and a personable approach so you feel comfortable asking questions. Bonus points if you catch me making a mistake! I want you to question a step that doesn’t make sense—even if it’s mine. That’s part of learning to trust your own mathematical thinking.

I’ve tutored online since 2018 and use Wyzant’s interactive whiteboard to work through problems and uploaded homework together. For parents, I tailor updates to your preferred involvement, through end-of-lesson conversations or Wyzant messages.

I welcome recurring weekly students and one-time lessons. Message me with what you’re working on, your goals, and preferred meeting times. I’d love to help you make sense of math and see what you can do!

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from BYU and have experience preparing students for ACT Math, drawing on about 15 years of mathematics tutoring. I love helping students discover that understanding the math and choosing an efficient approach can work together! Alongside teaching the concepts, I show students how to estimate when appropriate, use answer choices to guide their thinking and check their work, and use their calculator effectively to save time. My lessons combine clear explanations, practice, and pacing strategies to help students approach the test with greater confidence.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from BYU and have tutored Algebra 1 consistently for about 15 years, working with middle school, high school and college students, including through my one-on-one tutoring work at Utah Valley University. I love finding an explanation that makes a student say, “Oh, now I get it!” I help students understand the reasoning behind algebra and make sense of problems through clear explanations tailored to build on what they already know. My lessons move from worked examples to guided practice to students taking the lead, with plenty of encouragement and room for questions along the way.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is one of my favorite subjects to tutor—I know it well, and I love helping it click for students! I hold a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from BYU and have tutored Algebra 2 consistently for about 15 years, working with both high school and college students, including through my one-on-one tutoring work at Utah Valley University. I connect new material to what students already know and offer different explanations when they need another way to understand. Through worked examples and guided practice, I help students organize and remember their steps, understand why they work, and build confidence taking the lead.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from BYU, and my coursework included elementary mathematics for future teachers. I have tutored elementary-age children as well as college students studying elementary mathematics to become teachers. I love helping students discover why math works, using drawings and familiar examples to connect new ideas to what they already understand. With clear explanations, questions, and guided practice, I help students build understanding and confidence one step at a time!
Geometry

Geometry

I love Geometry, and I love helping students discover that it can actually make sense! I hold a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from BYU and have regularly tutored both high school and college students in Geometry throughout my approximately 15 years of mathematics tutoring. Through clear explanations, worked examples, and guided practice, I help students build on what they already know and gain confidence solving problems independently. And yes—I can help you tackle those tricky proofs, too!
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from BYU and have tutored prealgebra concepts consistently for about 15 years, primarily working with middle school and high school students. I love helping students discover that math makes sense and that they’re more capable than they thought! I use questions and clear explanations to build on what students already know, trying different approaches until we find one that clicks. Through worked examples and guided practice, I help students strengthen their foundations and gain confidence taking the lead on problems.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from BYU and have regularly tutored both high school and college students in Precalculus throughout my approximately 15 years of mathematics tutoring. I love taking a problem that looks complicated and helping a student work through it until the pieces fit together and it suddenly feels manageable! Those moments when everything simplifies are part of what makes math so enjoyable to me. I bring that enthusiasm into lessons, combining clear explanations and guided practice to help students connect ideas, ask questions freely, and become more confident solving problems independently.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education from BYU and have tutored both high school and college students in Trigonometry, as a separate course and as part of Precalculus. I love helping students see how the ideas connect so that what once looked confusing starts making sense! Drawing on about 15 years of mathematics tutoring, I break challenging material into manageable steps and explain the reasoning behind the process. My lessons are energetic and conversational, with worked examples, guided practice, and opportunities for students to take the lead as their understanding and confidence grow.

Thank you sarah!

Sarah tutors my 17 year old H.S son in algebra 2/trig. First session she immediately was able to walk him through his issues. He’s feeling so much more confident, has a firm grasp on he wasn’t understanding ….and I think mainly feels like he can do this moving forward- instead of feeling overwhelmed. Sarah is a pro and we’re super thankful.
