I am an English as a second language teacher with 3 1/2 years of experience teaching reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary in intensive English programs. I recently received the Outstanding Teacher of the Semester award from the school I work at. I minored in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) during my Bachelor's degree, and I am graduating in April, 2026 with my Master's degree in TESOL. I often help students prepare for reading and writing and college, and I have helped several students pass the TOEFL and other entrance exams for their dream college.
In my teaching I tend to use communicative language teaching (CLT) or task based learning (TBL) methods, though I gravitate towards CLT. I believe that students learn best when concise, easy to understand instruction is paired with adequate time focused on language and understandable feedback. In writing, I use both genre and process based approaches. In reading I tend to use a reading skill based approach, which means I employ both lower level and higher level reading skills to help students improve their comprehension and reading speed.
