I am a semi-retired educator and data professional with bachelor's and doctoral degrees in Psychology. For twenty-five years, I taught university psychology courses (including statistics classes for psychology students) and used statistical analyses of data to help the university I worked for improve its programs.
One of my favorite parts of teaching statistics was helping students with math anxiety realize they could learn statistics. Those who did the work, asked questions, and persevered when they felt stuck learned and passed the class. Some of these students even came to love statistics (and one that I know of became a university professor).
Part of my teaching process is to dispel misconceptions about how much math is required to understand basic statistics and show how statistical reasoning is tied to logic and critical thinking. I use practical examples, visual displays, and whiteboard work to engage students. I also draw on students' prior experiences to help them see the relevance of statistics and build on what they already know as a foundation for learning.
I can also tutor in college preparation (essays and other application needs.)
