About Nate

Bio

I have several hundred hours of experience tutoring in a wide range of subjects including math, physics, chemistry, computer programming/science, and Korean -- all from grade school to university levels. I am currently a level 2 CRLA certified tutor hoping to receive level 3 soon. Further, I have been the executive director for my university's tutoring program for three years. There should be no doubt that I love tutoring, and know what I'm doing!

I am currently working on my PhD in Computational Bio-organic chemistry at Brigham Young University. I graduated in 2023 with my B.S. in Computer science and minors in Chemistry and Korean. I also have experience both as a TA and as a co-instructor in many courses and subjects.

If there is any single thing that I have learned, it's that anybody can succeed in anything. Whether its organic chemistry, differential equations, deep learning architectural design, 1400s Korean literature, or anything in between, I have no doubt that you can be successful! As long as you help me to help you, we can be efficient, targeted, and constantly seek improvement in whatever you need. I want you to be your best self in any subject I can help you with. Most importantly, I want to help you love your education, and understand our world better through whatever lens you are looking through.

To prioritize a safe, accountable, and engaging tutoring environment, I only conduct in-person sessions in public areas. When tutoring any minor, I require the presence of a parent or guardian for the duration of our session.

Approved Subjects

Chemistry

Chemistry

I am currently a PhD student and Brigham Young University studying Computational Organic Chemistry, emphasizing protein design and function. I am currently published in the Journal for the American Chemical Society.
Computer Science

Computer Science

I have received a bachelors degree in computer science at BYU. I emphasized in machine/deep learning during my undergraduate degree, and have plenty of experience tutoring, teacher assisting, and otherwise helping with a variety of computer science topics. My PhD is currently largely centered around computer science and programming, despite it technically being in chemistry.
Korean

Korean

Most significantly, I spent two years in South Korea learning the language and interacting with people as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Further, I have completed a minor in Korean at university. I would be best fit for beginning/intermediate help.

Great way to solve problems from a new angle

One of the best tutors so far. Nate is very knowledgeable and taught my daughter an efficient way to resolve the problems that her teacher never showed her. It really helped her so much to clear doubts and move past difficult knowledge points. Introducing her to a new way to use the periodic table was super useful and probably the most helpful thing she learned the entire semester at school. Highly recommend!

Very Knowledgeable

Nate is a very good teacher. He listens and answers the questions you actually ask. You can tell that he knows what he is talking about and that he enjoys chemistry. 100% recommend

Knowledgeable, great communicator & patient

Nate is an incredible instructor, my son has needed individual assistance and Nate explains key concepts so he understands the subject and gives extra practice. Nate sends recaps of what was worked on in the tutoring session, and is well prepared for each session by reviewing beforehand the assignments that have been given. So grateful for the help!
