I'm Jake! I am currently a third-year medical student at Rocky Vista University.

I graduated from Brigham Young University-Idaho with a Bachelor of Science. I majored in Biomedical Science and minored in Fitness Prescription. I have been able to have many experiences in tutoring and teaching students. I have also been able to have many experiences in taking and passing on the first attempt the highest level standardized tests in a variety of fields.

I was a teaching assistant for advanced clinical anatomy at the university level for 4 semesters. I tutored course material, lead class periods, and lead assessments. I also worked as a student teacher at the university level. I was the instructor for the Exercise and Sports Science Weightlifting course. I developed the course curriculum from scratch and taught class sizes of 40+ students for two semesters. I finished my undergraduate degree with a 3.8 GPA with class experience in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, Biology, Advanced Clinical Anatomy, Advanced Clinical Physiology, Exercise Physiology, and Physics.

I have taken and passed on the first attempt the following standardized tests: Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exam, National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Exam, National Firefighter Certification Exam, (structure and wild-land firefighting), and the National Hazmat Certification exam.

I am credentialed as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA. I currently own a online training company where I instruct clients of all ages in nutrition and fitness consulting. I also worked as an EMT/Firefighter for almost 3 years. I have also published and presented research with the NSCA.

Through all of these experiences have acquired the tools necessary to instruct students with the most effective teaching and study strategies. I am excited to share these tools and study strategies with you!

Approved Subjects

Anatomy

Anatomy

I am a third-year medical student with extensive training in clinical anatomy through medical school, cadaver laboratory experience, and advanced coursework in the musculoskeletal, neurologic, and organ systems. Before medical school, I spent four semesters teaching advanced clinical anatomy at the university level, where I helped students understand anatomical structures, relationships, and clinical applications. I have experience simplifying difficult material, identifying structures in laboratory settings, and connecting anatomy to physiology, injuries, and disease. I can help students prepare for anatomy courses, practical examinations, and clinically focused medical-school material.
Biochemistry

Biochemistry

I am a third-year medical student with extensive biochemistry training at both the undergraduate and medical-school levels. I earned my degree in Biomedical Science and have successfully completed rigorous coursework covering metabolism, enzymes, molecular biology, genetics, and cellular signaling. I have also applied biochemistry extensively while preparing for the MCAT, medical-school examinations, and board exams. I can help students understand complex biochemical pathways by connecting them to physiology, disease processes, and clinically relevant examples.
Bodybuilding

Bodybuilding

I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with more than five years of experience designing hypertrophy and strength programs for competitive athletes and everyday lifters. My background includes exercise physiology, advanced anatomy, biomechanics, nutrition, and evidence-based programming for building muscle while improving performance. I can help with exercise selection, training splits, volume and intensity management, progressive overload, technique, recovery, and nutrition for muscle gain or fat loss. I also bring the clinical perspective of a third-year medical student, allowing me to explain how training affects the musculoskeletal and physiological systems.
Fitness

Fitness

I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists® (CSCS®) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. I was the lead strength trainer at a wellness center, student taught a strength training course at the university level and currently own an online training company. I scored 94% on the CSCS certification exam on my first attempt and can tutor anyone studying for that exam.
Microbiology

Microbiology

I am a third-year medical student with a B.S. in Biomedical Science and extensive coursework in microbiology, biology, biochemistry, immunology, and infectious disease. My medical training has required an in-depth understanding of bacterial and viral pathogenesis, antimicrobial mechanisms, immunology, and clinically relevant microbiology. I also have several years of university-level tutoring experience, including four semesters as an Advanced Clinical Anatomy tutor, and I focus on helping students understand complex material efficiently rather than simply memorize it.
Neuroscience

Neuroscience

I am a third-year medical student with extensive training in neuroscience, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and neurologic disease. My education has included the structure and function of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nervous system, sensory and motor pathways, neurotransmitters, and the physiologic basis of cognition, memory, and behavior. I have also spent four semesters teaching advanced clinical anatomy at the university level, which gave me extensive experience explaining complex anatomical and physiologic concepts clearly. I can help students understand difficult neuroscience material, connect foundational concepts to clinical disorders, and prepare effectively for coursework and examinations.
Nutrition

Nutrition

I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with more than five years of experience coaching nutrition for both competitive athletes and everyday individuals. I have a degree in Biomedical Science and am currently a third-year medical student, giving me a strong background in physiology, metabolism, and evidence-based nutrition. I have experience teaching clients how to calculate calories and macronutrients, structure fat-loss and muscle-gain phases, improve food quality, and adjust their nutrition as they progress. I can help students understand both the scientific principles of nutrition and how to apply them in practical, sustainable ways.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I am a third-year medical student who successfully completed the highly competitive and rigorous medical school application process and was accepted on my first application cycle. I have firsthand experience with prerequisite planning, the MCAT, personal statements, secondary applications, interviews, and presenting a strong overall application. I understand what admissions committees look for and can help students identify weaknesses, organize their experiences, and communicate their qualifications effectively. I can also provide practical guidance on preparing for the academic demands of medical school once accepted.
Physiology

Physiology

I am a third-year medical student with extensive physiology training through both my Biomedical Science degree and medical-school coursework. I have studied cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, neurologic, endocrine, gastrointestinal, and exercise physiology in depth and regularly apply these concepts to clinical cases and board-style questions. I also spent four semesters teaching advanced clinical anatomy at the university level, which gave me extensive experience explaining complex biological concepts clearly and connecting structure to function. I can help students understand difficult physiological mechanisms, prepare for exams, and apply foundational concepts to disease processes and clinical scenarios.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I am a third-year medical student with a strong record of succeeding on rigorous academic and professional examinations, including the MCAT, the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exam, the National Registry EMT exam, firefighter certification exams, and numerous medical-school examinations. I have extensively studied the highest-yield principles and strategies for learning efficiently, including active recall, spaced repetition, interleaving, memory consolidation, and the neuroscience underlying long-term retention. I can help students build effective study systems, improve comprehension and recall, prepare for high-stakes exams, and use their study time more efficiently.

Knowledgeable, enjoyable, easy to learn from and interact

I have had 2 tutor sessions with him, and they have been nothing short of perfect. He gets into detail and will explain everything down to a science based on my questions I has. He would work OT and go into google docs to prepare a great lesson for me
