Musician Experienced in Teaching Drums and Composition

Hi, my name is Josiah! I am a recent graduate from Utah Valley University with a degree in Commercial Music. I spent my time at school practicing my skills as a drummer and percussionist by performing with a lot of different groups: the Green Man Group drum line, the Utah Jazz drum line, Percussion UVU (UVU's top percussion ensemble), the UVU Jazz Orchestra, and countless small groups that performed in various styles. As a composer and arranger I have written pieces for the UVU Jazz Orchestra, Percussion UVU, and several small groups. I have had the pleasure of performing all over Utah with the various groups I have been a part of. I also work as an accompanist for UVU's Dance Department.

I have 6 years of private teaching experience as I began teaching drum set privately shortly after high school. Since then I have taught music at Best in Music education center and Prattland Music Adventures, as well as teaching independently. I teach drum set, percussion, world music, composition, arranging and production (specifically Sibelius, Finale, and Pro Tools).

My goal as a music teacher is to instill an abiding love and appreciation for music and all art, a disciplined practice habit, and healthy ambitions/goals. In the past my students have competed/participated in the Utah Chapter's Pasic Day of Percussion (the largest all-inclusive percussion event in the western United States!) and placed in their respective categories.
