I love working with people and students, especially when it involves learning. The major reason that English is my favorite subject is not only the ability to be creative, but the requirement to be creative. English is the instrument that allows people to translate onto the paper what they feel, think, and believe. This can be difficult to do sometimes, even for English majors and graduates; but with help and training, any person can have the ability to put their thought into a perfectly written piece of literature, whether it be in the form of a short story, essay, poem, song, screenplay, or novel.
When I work with a student, I focus on the individual and their respective needs, strengths, and weaknesses. Every student is different, and so tutoring and teaching methods are equally different with each student. My methods are primarily a focused, detail-oriented, and fun way of teaching and learning. I believe fun and humor are some of the best ways of educating.
Personally, I love writing, reading, movies, and music, and I am particularly passionate about storytelling in all its forms. Some of my favorite books include The Great Gatsby, Moby-Dick, Of Mice and Men, The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, Blood Meridian, Heart of Darkness, Candide, Invisible Man, Treasure Island, and, of course, Harry Potter. In my spare time I work on short stories of my own, as well as writing literary analyses of some of my favorite movies, which include The Dark Knight, Star Wars, Blade Runner 2049, and all of the Avengers movies.
I have experience in peer review in a school setting as well as drafting, editing, and revising at a law firm. I am currently a full-time student at Utah Valley University, majoring in English. I am a junior (3rd year) and expect to graduate with a Bachelor's degree by 2020. I graduated from Mountain View High School in Orem, Utah. I am originally from Mississippi, where I was born and raised, and grew up heavily influenced by parents who were passionate about writing, reading, and l
