My name is Brandon D. I'm Wyzant's #1 Spanish Tutor based on hours, ratings, and feedback combined. It is the only subject that I teach. I love helping someone who feels like they can't learn the language to gain confidence in themselves that they can learn it, and then do it. I'm 37 years old (18 years teaching and tutoring experience with clients ages 4-78) and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah with Departmental Honors in Spanish. I taught adults at a private college (OWATC) for two years. I took Spanish in junior high and high school. I became fluent in speaking, reading, writing, and translating while serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mexico for approximately two years by listening to the Mexican people, sharing religious beliefs and eternal truths, translating, studying, and applying new knowledge immediately and frequently. I lived/visited, served, and learned in La Cruz de Elota, Ceuta, El Dorado, Costa Rica (city), El Dorado, Tanques, Escuinapa, Mazatlán, La Paz, Culiacán, Chilillos, and Rosario, Sinaloa for a total of 1 1/4 years. I also lived and served in San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas for another 7 1/2 months. The life lessons that I learned with the Mexican people are priceless and some of the most valuable lessons I have ever learned. I am and will be grateful and blessed forever from experiencing and learning the Mexican culture.
I love tutoring with Wyzant because I can focus on and cater to the needs and life of my students at their pace and teach exactly what they want to learn. I also like to help my students use the language in real-life situations when they are ready, to boost their confidence, knowledge, and experience using the Spanish language. It is a privilege to help my clients achieve their educational goals, whatever they may be. I am eager to meet you interested clients! Please contact me soon to get started!

The Best Spanish Tutor you could ask for

I was struggling in Spanish but once I started to learn with Brandon, he helped me immensely, being extremely patient and teaching me topics that I had previously struggled with. He is also so energetic and he makes sure that learning is fun, by making jokes and giving fun ways to memorize vocabulary. I can't count how many times I used his tricks to memorize hard verb conjugations. Throughout the class Brandon talks in Spanish which helps with comprehension, but also know exactly when to talk in English to help clear up topics, especially in grammar. Would highly recommend!

Great Tutor

Brandon helped me catch up on some Spanish One which I took 30 + years ago. I just finished Spanish 2 and started Spanish 3 - so I am backfilling. I used an on-campus tutor for a few hours today (one day after working with Brandon). The school tutor was great, but in contrast, what I notice most is that Brandon listens...when I say "hold up, I am a slow note taker," or, "hold on, didn't we just talk about....(whatever),” or any other question I needed to interrupt him for (because I am big on that), he just stopped, listened, answered my question sufficiently and went back on track or altered based on his perception of my question and or understanding. And, since he listened, it was seamless to me. I walked away with a much better understanding of direct and indirect object pronouns which signifies the break between Spanish 1 and 2 in the California college curriculum and therefore was a huge sticking point for me since I had forgotten or never learned that last little bit of Spanish 1. Since I had to take off running with the continuation in Spanish 2 and now find myself in Spanish 3; all of what I missed or have forgotten from Spanish 1 all those years ago is seriously coming back to haunt me. However, we made big strides; more than I thought would have been possible in one session let alone a first session. And, today, with the on-campus library tutor, it paid off, Big Time. I may be a bit tentative in my Spanish usage, but he put me on the right track and my confidence increased greatly and satisfyingly. I plan on working with Brandon to continue reviewing any "shoddy" areas in Spanish 1 and 2, of which there are more than a few, as well as using him to converse in Spanish on a regular basis; which is a big hold back to my fluency since just like in any other aspect of life, if you don't use it, you lose it. So, he is great: he is knowledgeable, easy-going, friendly, patient and managed to make the first session fun. Honestly, I was expecting it to be kind of a drag, like stepping into some black hole where time just freezes and you can think of nothing else but escape. Fortunately, that was not the case, our hour session turning into a two-hour session. I’ll have to pay attention to that in the future since I am not made gold. It does help that I really want to learn Spanish as a bucket list item, but if I were back in high school, or in college worrying about graduating, this guy gets an A+ in his capability and manner.... he could easily teach this as a tenured college professor and his students would love him. Regards, Evan

Spanish tutor

Brandon tutored my daughter for her high school Spanish class, helping her get caught up after missing some school. She felt much more comfortable in her skills after their session. He did a great job communicating with me as her mom about what they accomplished. He was very easy to schedule with! Thanks Brandon

Really made the difference in helping me pass my classes

I can't recommend Brandon enough for tutoring. This past semester was my second time working with Brandon and he has been nothing but helpful over the last 6 months. He always made sure I had the resources I needed to succeed, and was helpful with everything from homework to writing assignments. I got an A in Spanish 102, and I'm confident he helped me get the same in Spanish 201. I couldn't have passed these classes without his help, and I'm grateful for his services. Thanks again, Brandon!
