Hi! I am a music performer and teacher based in northern Utah. I have lots of experience teaching a variety of music subjects! I am most experienced with teaching band, choir, music theory, and music history, but I also feel very comfortable teaching percussion, guitar, and music technology/production.

My favorite subject to teach is actually music theory! It's such a fascinating subject, and is both frustratingly challenging and insanely rewarding! I have several years of experience teaching all levels of theory from beginning to AP Music Theory. I also love teaching music history and musicology, and these are subjects I study for my own personal interest.

My main instruments are flute and saxophone, and I hold a Bachelor's degree in Instrumental Performance on Flute. I have many years of professional performing experience on flute, piccolo, and sax. For flute, my emphasis is in classical playing, and I am assistant principal flute for Chamber Orchestra Ogden, which is a semi-pro symphony in my area. For sax, I have some classical experience, but I primarily play jazz, and I am a member of the Riverton Jazz Band where I play tenor sax. I often utilize flute in jazz, and am comfortable teaching jazz and classical styles on both flute and sax. I have many years of experience with private instruction on flute, sax, and music theory.

I have spent many years learning and teaching percussion alongside my husband who is also a music teacher and professional percussionist, so my skills with percussion are pretty strong. Additionally, I have taught both classical and rock/pop guitar for the last six years, at the beginning and intermediate levels. I play guitar and piano as a hobby, specializing in contemporary worship and pop styles, which I love teaching for guitar and piano.

In addition to my Bachelor's degree, I hold a Master's degree in Music Education, and I have quite a lot of teaching experience.

I would love to help you reach your music goals in any of these areas, so I hope we can work together!

Approved Subjects

Ear Training

Ear Training

I have been teaching beginning through advanced choir in both junior high and high school for the last eight years. My choirs all learn to read music and develop aural skills using movable-do Solfege and Curwen hand signs. I have taught AP Music Theory for several years as well, which includes advanced aural skills/ear training.
Flute

Flute

My Bachelor's degree is in Instrumental Music Performance with an emphasis on flute. Though my graduate studies were in Music Education, I pursued performance at the graduate level as well, and completed a lecture recital as a part of my Master's degree. I have performed with a semi-pro symphony orchestra for the last twelve years on flute and piccolo, and I have been a gigging musician on flute for over fifteen years including notable pit orchestra performances for musical theater, ballet, and opera.
Guitar

Guitar

I have taught general guitar classes in secondary education for many years, and I have also played guitar for over 10 years. My playing experience focuses on contemporary worship and pop/rock styles. I have taught beginning-intermediate classical guitar as well. My courses focus on note-reading, tablature, chords, pentatonic, blues, and Segovia scales, blues chord progressions, music theory, and many other skills to help you grow as a pop/rock guitarist or to play in the contemporary worship setting.
Saxophone

Saxophone

I have studied saxophone, primarily in jazz, for more than fifteen years. I primarily play tenor and baritone sax, and I perform with the Riverton Jazz Band, which is a semi-pro big band jazz ensemble in my area. In my undergraduate degree, I studied saxophone for classical and jazz styles. I have also taught saxophone lessons for many years.
