Writing has been central to my academic life, and helping others find their way into it is work I genuinely love. I earned my bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Environmental Studies, graduating with Dean's List honors most semesters and receiving my department's award for outstanding senior thesis -- a 75-page philosophical argument I wrote and defended as my capstone project. That experience taught me what it actually takes to develop an idea from a vague intuition into a clear, well-supported piece of writing, and it's exactly what I draw on when I work with students on their personal statements and supplementals.
My teaching background spans several years and a range of contexts. I worked as a teaching assistant in college for multiple courses, including an upper-level philosophy seminar, where I helped students sharpen their arguments and express complex ideas with clarity. Before that, I spent two years as an instructor at an outdoor school for nontraditional learners, and I've worked extensively with kids through environmental education programs and summer camps, including a summer as an assistant camp director. I currently tutor through Tutor.com as well. All of this has shaped how I approach working one-on-one with students: I pay close attention, I don't use a one-size-fits-all method, and I meet people where they are.
College essays are where I feel most at home as a tutor. I know how hard it is to write about yourself in a way that feels real rather than performative, and I've helped students figure out what they actually want to say and then say it well. I'm especially experienced working with neurodiverse students and anyone who's felt like traditional academic settings weren't built for them. My goal is always to help you find your voice, not replace it with mine.
