I’m Vanessa, an educator with 14 years of experience working with students from elementary through high school. I’ve taught English, reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and art, and I’ve worked with students with a wide range of learning styles, skill levels, and academic needs.

My approach to tutoring is straightforward: I want students to understand what they’re doing, not just get through an assignment. I start by figuring out where a student is struggling and why, then adjust my approach from there. Sometimes that means breaking a difficult concept into smaller pieces, working through examples together, or simply explaining something in a different way until it clicks.

I have extensive experience teaching reading, writing, grammar, literature, and essay writing, as well as elementary and middle school math, science, and social studies. I can also provide general homework support and help students build better study, organization, and time-management habits.

I’m patient and direct, and I want students to feel comfortable asking questions or saying, “I don't understand that.” There’s no benefit to pretending something makes sense when it doesn’t. My goal is to help students build both the skills and confidence to eventually do the work more independently.

If you're looking for someone who can meet a student where they are, explain things clearly, and help them make measurable progress, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to discuss your student’s needs and see if we would be a good fit.

Approved Subjects

Common Core

Common Core

Having taught elementary core subjects for over a decade, I am deeply familiar with Common Core standards and how they are actually applied in the classroom. I understand that the methods—especially in math and reading—can sometimes feel confusing or frustrating for both kids and parents. My approach is to demystify these standards, breaking them down into clear, practical steps so students can meet school expectations without the stress. I provide a relaxed, supportive environment where we bridge any learning gaps and build the exact skills your child needs to succeed.
Creative Writing

With 14 years of teaching experience across elementary core subjects and middle school ELA, I love helping students find their unique voices through writing. My approach is completely supportive and low-pressure, focusing on generating fun ideas, structuring stories, and developing interesting characters without the fear of a blank page. I help kids move past the stress of perfectionism by breaking the writing process down into clear, enjoyable steps. Whether your child wants to craft imaginative stories or simply feel more confident expressing their ideas on paper, I provide the patient guidance they need to succeed.

I am a veteran educator with 14 years of experience teaching core subjects, including four years focused specifically on elementary and 6th-grade math. My approach is simple and relaxed, focusing on breaking down numbers into clear steps so students don't feel overwhelmed. I enjoy helping kids build genuine confidence in their skills without the stress often tied to math. Parents can count on honest communication, and students can expect a patient, supportive environment where it is completely okay to make mistakes while learning.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

With 14 years of teaching experience, including middle school ELA and advanced literacy, I know exactly how to help students tackle the essay writing process without the overwhelm. I teach a clear, step-by-step approach that breaks down everything from brainstorming and forming a thesis to organizing paragraphs and refining arguments. My goal is to take the guesswork and stress out of writing so kids can express their ideas logically and confidently. Whether they are working on a standard school prompt or learning to structure a more complex paper, I provide the patient, practical guidance they need to succeed.
Fitness

Fitness

I have spent my entire life immersed in sports and fitness, maintaining a consistent, active training routine through adulthood. Along with years of experience as a long-distance runner, I am an avid climber, skier, hiker, mountain biker, and weightlifter who understands how to build real-world endurance and strength. While I don’t have a formal fitness degree, I bring deep, practical knowledge on how to train sustainably, listen to your body, and stay motivated. I focus on making fitness straightforward and functional, helping clients build a strong physical foundation to support the activities they love.
Grammar

Grammar

I have over a decade of experience teaching English Language Arts (ELA), ranging from foundational elementary grammar to 6th-grade Advanced Literacy and middle school ELA. I focus on making grammar rules clear, logical, and easy to apply without making the lessons feel dry or boring. My goal is to help students become natural, confident writers by breaking down sentence structure and mechanics into manageable pieces. I provide a supportive space where students can steadily improve their communication skills and feel proud of their progress.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

Throughout my 14 years in the classroom, I integrated public speaking directly into all of my elementary, middle school, and advanced ELA courses. I understand how intimidating it can be for kids to speak in front of others, so I focus heavily on building confidence in a patient, low-pressure environment. I teach practical skills like organizing thoughts, managing stage fright, maintaining eye contact, and speaking with clarity. My goal is to help students find their natural voices so they can share their ideas confidently, whether giving a school presentation or speaking in a group.
Sewing

Sewing

I have been sewing as a personal hobby for years, focusing on projects that are simple, fun, and highly practical. I love helping students discover the joy of creating something useful from scratch in a relaxed, encouraging environment.

Together, we will build the solid foundation and self-reliance your child needs to approach their homework and exams with total confidence.

With 14 years of teaching experience, including advanced literacy and middle school ELA, I help students navigate the complex process of developing and writing a strong thesis. I specialize in breaking down large, intimidating research projects into simple, manageable milestones, from forming a sharp argumentative statement to organizing supporting evidence. My approach focuses on clarity and logic, ensuring students know exactly how to structure their thoughts without getting overwhelmed. I provide a calm, collaborative environment where students can turn a blank page into a well-crafted, confident academic paper.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

Throughout my 14 years in the classroom teaching elementary core subjects and middle school ELA, I have helped hundreds of students successfully expand their word power. I focus on making vocabulary learning natural and functional rather than just memorizing endless, dry word lists for a test. By teaching practical skills like using context clues, understanding word roots, and practicing active reading, I help kids naturally upgrade their writing and speaking. My goal is to give students the tools they need to read with stronger comprehension and express themselves with clarity and confidence.
