About Rath

Bio

I help students build real understanding and confidence in math by focusing on how concepts work, not just how to follow steps. Many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because ideas were introduced too abstractly or too quickly. My approach emphasizes clarity, visual reasoning, and reducing anxiety so students can develop intuition before moving into formal procedures.

I am a Texas-certified educator for grades 4–12 with over a decade of teaching experience in public school classrooms, as well as experience teaching developmental math at the college level. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and a Master’s degree in Education Media Design & Technology. In addition to classroom teaching, I have worked extensively in one-on-one tutoring environments, including current work with Mathnasium and past experience with Sylvan Learning Centers, where I supported students with a wide range of learning needs.

For my day job, I teach high school Animation, where applied math, logic, and problem-solving are used daily in practical, visual ways. While I primarily tutor math, my background in computer science and digital media allows me to explain logical reasoning and systems thinking clearly, which is especially helpful for older students and those in STEM-related courses. I am also involved in computer science education through teacher certification preparation programs and by sponsoring a student computer science club.

I work with students ranging from middle school through college and tutor subjects including middle school math, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and developmental or remedial college math. I prioritize a calm, low-pressure learning environment and adapt each session to the student’s goals and learning style. Sessions are available both in person and online, with a focus on helping students leave each session more confident and capable than when they arrived.

ACT Math

ACT Math

I help students prepare for the ACT Math section by strengthening core concepts, improving problem recognition, and developing efficient test strategies. As a Texas-certified math teacher, I focus on helping students understand why solutions work so they can adapt quickly under time pressure. I work with students to identify recurring weaknesses, reduce test anxiety, and improve pacing and accuracy. My approach balances content review with strategic practice to help students feel confident and prepared on test day.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I specialize in helping students build strong Algebra I foundations by focusing on how variables, equations, and functions actually work. As a Texas-certified math teacher, I spent five years teaching upper-level math in public high school classrooms and have also taught developmental math at the college level. I work with students who feel lost, behind, or frustrated and help them rebuild confidence by slowing things down and making patterns visible. My approach emphasizes understanding and problem structure so students can apply what they learn consistently, not just memorize steps.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I help students make sense of Algebra II by focusing on how functions behave and how different problem types are connected. As a Texas-certified math teacher, I taught Algebra II throughout my tenure in public high school classrooms and am deeply familiar with state standards and common student pitfalls. Many students struggle in Algebra II because the abstraction ramps up quickly, so I slow the process down and emphasize patterns that apply across linear, quadratic, exponential, logarithmic, and rational functions. My goal is to help students recognize structure, build confidence, and develop strategies that carry forward into advanced math or future coursework.
Animation

Animation

I've taught Animation at the high school level for over 10 years. Areas of focus include 3D Modeling and Environment/Character Creation. I use free and open source software including Blender and Krita.
Computer Programming

Computer Programming

I support students learning computer programming by focusing on logical thinking, problem decomposition, and understanding how code behaves rather than memorizing syntax. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and have experience supporting computer science education through teacher certification preparation programs and student enrichment activities such as sponsoring a computer science club. My approach emphasizes reading code, tracing execution, and recognizing patterns so students can debug and adapt solutions independently. This is especially helpful for beginners, students transitioning into programming-heavy courses, or learners who feel overwhelmed by abstract concepts.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I support elementary students in building strong math foundations by focusing on understanding, confidence, and clear explanations rather than speed or memorization. As a Texas-certified educator for grades 4–12, I have experience working with younger learners who need patience, structure, and reassurance as they develop number sense and problem-solving skills. I also have current experience working in a Mathnasium setting, which emphasizes diagnostic assessment, targeted skill development, and mastery-based progression that I adapt to each student’s needs. My goal is to reduce anxiety early and help students feel capable and supported as math expectations increase.
General Computer

General Computer

I help students build confidence with general computer skills by focusing on practical understanding rather than assuming prior experience. This includes working with operating systems, file management, basic software usage, and understanding how computers store and process information. As an educator with a background in computer science and digital media, I am experienced in supporting students who feel overwhelmed or behind when using technology for schoolwork. My goal is to help students become more independent, organized, and comfortable using computers as everyday learning tools.
Geometry

Geometry

I help students succeed in Geometry by focusing on visual reasoning, spatial understanding, and the logic behind geometric relationships. As a Texas-certified math teacher, I have extensive experience teaching Geometry in public high school classrooms and supporting students who struggle with proofs, diagrams, and multi-step problems. I emphasize making connections between formulas, figures, and real-world meaning so students are not relying on memorization alone. My goal is to help students develop confidence in their reasoning and approach Geometry as a system that makes sense rather than a collection of disconnected rules.
Java

Java

I help students learn Java by focusing on understanding program flow, logic, and problem-solving rather than memorizing syntax alone. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and have experience supporting Java concepts through coursework, tutoring, and student enrichment activities such as computer science clubs. My approach emphasizes reading code, tracing execution, and breaking problems into manageable steps so students can debug and adapt their solutions independently. This support is especially helpful for beginners, high school students in Java-based courses, and college students who need clearer explanations of core concepts.
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

I help students and adult learners build practical Microsoft Excel skills by focusing on understanding how spreadsheets organize, calculate, and analyze information. This includes working with formulas, basic functions, cell references, formatting, and organizing data for school or everyday use. With a background in computer science and digital media, I emphasize logical thinking and clear structure so learners understand what Excel is doing rather than following steps blindly. My goal is to help students feel confident using Excel as a tool for problem solving and organization.
Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint

I help students develop effective Microsoft PowerPoint skills by focusing on clear communication, organization, and visual structure rather than flashy effects. This includes building well-organized slides, using text and visuals purposefully, and understanding how to present information clearly to an audience. With experience in digital media and education, I guide students in creating presentations that support their message and meet academic expectations. My goal is to help students feel confident using PowerPoint as a tool for learning, presenting, and sharing ideas.
Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word

I help students use Microsoft Word effectively by focusing on organization, formatting, and clarity rather than simply typing text. This includes working with documents, headings, spacing, citations, and basic layout so assignments meet academic expectations. With experience in education and digital media, I guide students in using Word as a tool to support their writing and communication. My goal is to help students feel confident creating polished documents for school and everyday use.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I help students succeed in Pre-Algebra by strengthening foundational skills and preparing them for the transition into Algebra.
