I developed an award winning reading program based on Orton-Gillingham and Wilson reading principles and strategies. My reading success resulted in six Teacher of the Year Awards and multiple reading awards for my student such as four Lone Star Achievement Awards for scoring in the top 6% on the reading standardized tests of all students in Texas.
The success of my special education students was validated by many of them returning to the general education classroom. Many of my students made two years of progress in a year doubling their fluency. Some made three years of progress. I have taught students from age 6-18. I have taught general ed., special ed., dyslexic, gifted, ESL, ELL, and in wheelchairs. It has been exciting watching so many students make unprecedented progress resulting in exceptional academic and reading progress which greatly enhanced their self esteem.
I analyze all my students phonetic foundation and continually build their sight word inventories. Cognitively mapping all the foundational phonetic rules has led my students to make extraordinary gains. All these improvements led to unprecedented gains in their fluency and comprehension.
