Hi! I’m Travis. I’m finishing my master’s in molecular biology at the University of Houston–Clear Lake, where I study how proteins interact with signaling pathways in the human body. I also have a bachelor’s in biology from the University of Texas at Austin, with a focus on ecology, evolution, and animal behavior, so I can help with a wide range of biology topics, from introductory courses to more advanced material.

Hi!

I’m currently a Teaching Assistant for a college Genetics Lab, where I work with students one-on-one and in groups. I guide them through lab techniques like PCR, gel electrophoresis, and blue-white screening, while also helping them really understand the concepts behind what they’re doing. Over time, I’ve learned how to break down tricky topics in a way that makes sense for different learning styles. Most of the students I work with are undergraduates, but the material often overlaps with high school biology too.

When I tutor, I focus on making challenging topics easier to grasp and helping students feel confident in their understanding. I can help with homework, assignments, or exam prep, but I also try to make sure students get the bigger picture so they can apply what they’ve learned on their own

Genetics

The experiments done in my lab, like studying fly populations, reinforce lecture concepts like genetic drift, allele frequencies, and natural selection. I walk the students through the statistics that shows when events like genetic drift occur, as well as what it means conceptually within a population. We also discuss population dynamics like bottlenecks or speciation events, and what makes animals susceptible to these factors.
