Engaged Liberal Arts Tutor With Writing Focus

Howdy all! I graduated with honors from a small liberal arts college in Sherman, Texas in 2021. I fully believe in the mission of a liberal arts education- to expand the mind across disciplines and invest in holistic pedagogy. During my years in college I tutored at our writing center as a peer tutor, completing extra courses in writing pedagogy to hone my craft. I have spoken at writing center conference on my research on neurodivergent peer tutoring strategies and am constantly pushing myself to learn more about the most effective methods our field comes up with. I graduated with a degree in International Relations, with a minor in Spanish. I worked for three years in writing tutoring with age groups starting from elementary school to graduate. I've helped others write personal statements that have allowed them to get into everything from opera programs to law school, each time making sure to uplift the story they have to tell. After college, I've continued tutoring in early literacy, history, political science, and textile work. I've worked with elementary ages, middle school, high school, and above. I also frequently work with students who are neurodivergent or have communication disorders.

I may have graduated from being a peer, but I still hold the focus on engaging on an individual level and maintaining a sense of play in my work. I tutor within political science, world history, anthropology, literature, and writing, all with a focus on strengthening higher-level communication skills without sacrificing individual voice. I also teach arts and crafts, so stop in for some grammar help and leave with a new reclaimed-yarn crochet project!
