I am a certified math teacher providing the highest quality in-person and online math tutoring and piano lessons for all ages. My experience includes 6 years of classroom teaching, homeschooling my 2 daughters through high school, and over 20 years of tutoring math and teaching piano lessons to hundreds of students ranging in age from 4 to adult.
In junior high and high school, I was heavily involved in numerous clubs and organizations and knew from a young age that I wanted to be a teacher. After graduating high school with honors (Magna Cum Laude), I attended college to become a teacher. In college, I made the Dean’s List on multiple occasions and was a social chairperson for Kappa Delta Pi, an honor society for educators. In 1993, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a specialization in math.
During my time as a math teacher and tutor, I have used various manipulatives and teaching methods, raised standardized test scores, wrote curriculum, and most importantly, I developed a love of learning and an attitude of caring and sharing in my students.
My passion for music began when I was a child. While growing up, I took piano lessons, participated in band throughout junior high and high school, and was drum major my senior year. I taught my daughters to play piano and have been teaching others to play for the last 7 years.
When I begin working with a new math student, I give a learning style inventory and an assessment. This gives me insight into how the student learns and what their strengths and weaknesses are. My sessions are then tailored to the individual needs of the student. I make my time with my math and piano students enjoyable by using games and manipulatives and by keeping them engaged.
I have always had a love for people and teaching others and would love the opportunity to work with you or your student!
