Northeastern University, Boston (Engineering)
Hello....My name is Tony C. and I recently moved to the San Antonio area from Reno, Nevada. I am an independent highly experienced Math Tutor in Basic Algebra, Algebra 1 and Algebra 2. I am fluently bilingual (Spanish/English) with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University. I specialize in rigorous academic tutoring and test prep for highly motivated Middle and High School students. My teaching style is being flexible making the sessions very relaxed, friendly and conversational. Every meeting is unique as our dialogue will never be one-sided: I ask questions constantly, and I expect to be asked questions. My emphasis, always, is on concepts and communication--on making sure you can clearly explain what we are doing and why we are doing it. By sharpening their powers of analysis and explanation, my students not only refine their problem-solving skills and Ace-Exams, but also develop deep and lasting understanding.
My standards are very high. Therefore, once I have and idea where the student is, I tutor our future tutoring sessions to allow him/her to gain and demonstrate mastery of the course of study. Most importantly, I will teach students how to attack the problem and how to think of the solution. Anyone can pick up study guides and practice exams books and go through it while checking their work solutions at the back. However, the book doesn't tell you what you are doing wrong or how to improve yourself. If you want to be sure to do well on your first attempt, I will teach you how to approach problems, techniques, timing and tactics that cannot be found in any one single study guide but rather a compilation of years of experience and expertise. Please, keep in mind Practice, Practice and Practice the course of study will master our minds.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
