I am a teacher of 35 years and the mother of five grown children. Both my undergraduate and Master's degrees are in elementary education. If the following bullet points resonate with you, I may be the tutor for whom you are looking.
I believe that phonics is essential for good reading and spelling, that mastery of math facts is critical for success in math beyond 3rd grade, and that a good understanding of English grammar is extremely helpful for becoming a good writer.
The three areas of teaching where I believe I am able to give students their biggest, quickest boost are these:
1) K5-7th grade math
2) K5-3rd grade reading and spelling
3) 2nd-6th grade grammar
I think that summer is a GREAT time for giving students an academic boost! In summer students are able to get 40-60 hours of tutoring in a matter of weeks, which is much quicker, more efficient, and more concentrated than they can get by tutoring an hour/week throughout the school year.

During summer I am often able to offer a 5-6-week "summer school" at a reduced rate--a BIG chance at catching up or getting ahead in math, reading, and grammar.
My daughter met with Mrs. H. yesterday. She is very kind and positive. My daughter felt very comfortable with her and she is ready for her next week's lesson. My daughter has a long road ahead of her, but I believe in time with Laurie Ann's help and guidance, she will not only succeed, but have a stronger core in reading which will help her for years to come. Laurie Anne is working with Jesaiah on phonics and reading. She was able to keep his interest for a full hour, and he thoroughly enjoyed his session.

Lauri Anne assessed our 15 year old family member who has been seriously struggling with math in middle school. We learned that she is further behind than we knew - the great news is that we have a plan to support her learning. We know that this will provide her the confidence that will help her life to be independent and successful.
My son responded well to Lauri Anne. He has a very short attention span but she found ways to keep him engaged and interested. I will definitely use her in the future for more tutoring sessions.
My daughter loves her, she is quite energetic and gives a positive it feeling when it comes to children. I believe that helps with teaching her students, also building there confidence as well.
How to work with my child. How to be patient. I love the way she interacts with my child, when she starts to lose focus. I love that she very open with my child.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught all levels from kindergarten through 6th grade in my 30+ years of teaching. My undergraduate and Master's degrees are in elementary education. I have helped many students' improve their Stanford Achievement Test scores significantly within a single school year.
I have helped numerous students improve percentiles dramatically when taking standardized achievement tests, but I do this by actually teaching students how to do math, not by "teaching the test". I find again and again that the root problem for many 4th-12th grade math students is that students have not learned some very basic math concepts or math facts very well during 1st-3rd grades.
I have taught English grammar at all grade levels 2nd-8th. I have a very efficient method for teaching students how to identify all eight parts of speech as well as subjects, predicate nouns, predicate adjectives, direct objects and indirect objects.
Over many years of having taught 3rd-8th grade grammar, I have become quite experienced in giving students a strong foundation in grammar. I am often able to bring a child along rather quickly in his or her understanding of all eight parts of speech and also understanding the parts of a sentence. I find students as young as 2nd and 3rd-graders can understand, not only about subjects and verbs, but also about direct objects, indirect objects, predicate adjectives, and predicate nominatives.
I have taught both cursive and manuscript handwriting at all elementary grade levels for over three decades.
Having taught K5-3rd grades for many years of my teaching career, I have used phonics instruction in helping hundreds of students improve their reading and spelling. I have worked with students at the earliest stages of learning consonant sounds and vowel sounds and blending. I have made certain that my students get daily practice as they are learning the sounds and spellings of the various digraphs and diphthongs. I also consider it crucial that students in these grades master the spellings of the most commonly used words in our language.
I have both an undergraduate degree in elementary education and a Master's degree in elementary education. I have taught various level elementary grades for over 30 years. By using phonics, high-frequency word lists, and sometimes multi-sensory approaches to learning, I have often helped students to become better spellers.
