About Robin

Bio

After a 32-year teaching career, I retired in 2022. I taught various subjects, including elementary education (grades 1-6) with an emphasis on reading and social studies, as well as 8th grade American History for 27 years. Additionally, I am certified to teach Social Studies for high school students (grades 9-12).

After a 32-year teaching career, I retired in 2022. I taught various subjects, including elementary education (grades 1-6) with an emphasis on reading and social studies, as well as 8th grade American History for 27 years. Additionally, I am certified to teach Social Studies for high school students (grades 9-12).

I began online tutoring in 2020, focusing on English Language Arts (ELA), Reading, AP U.S. History (APUSH), AP Government (APGOV), AP World History, and middle school social studies. My college education started at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, in 1985. After realizing that teaching was my true calling, I transferred to Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.

During my 19 years at the Texarkana Independent School District, I earned my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I hold several certifications, including being a Google Certified Educator, an AP College Board Certified teacher, and a National Institute of STEM Educator (NISE) Certified Teacher. I also served as a team and department lead teacher in the district.

Throughout my career, I have received numerous honors, including being selected three times as Teacher of the Year for the Texas Middle School Campus among over 100 teachers. I was twice recognized as the Secondary Teacher of the Year for the district and once received the Regional Secondary Teacher of the Year award, which encompasses over 40 school districts in Northeast Texas. This honor placed me among the top 20 secondary teachers in the State of Texas in 2022.

I have successfully adapted my classroom skills to an online platform, allowing me to tailor each lesson to meet the individual needs of my students. My AP students have consistently performed well, and many of them request to continue working with me in other AP Social Studies courses.

As a classroom teacher, I worked with ADD and ADHD students for my entire career. My classes had, on average, 5 ADD or ADHD students in each one. Consider 29 years, 140 students a day, five classes per day, and 25 of those students (and often more than that) were ADD or ADHD. I learned that these students require short, simple instructions with reflection and interaction throughout the class. In addition, my daughter was diagnosed when she was 6 years old. She is now 28.
