After completing my degree I started working at a college campus and I've been tutoring college level since then. There I work with students of all ages in classes that go from pre-college algebra, College algebra, Trigonometry, Finite Mathematics, Precalculus, Business Math all the way up to Calculus II and III. I also have experience working with high school students in one to one sessions for classes like Geometry, Algebra I and II, Precalculus and Calculus. Depending on the age and current level of understanding of the kids I develop plans with them or their parents to achieve the goals they expect.
The way I work with students is to review the material they are covering and next I make a quick diagnostic of what is he or she doing good and what concepts they need to better understand, in order to be able to successfully solve the problems presented to them. My sessions consist of three parts. First, listening to what the student needs, then have a conversation with them to make sure that we both agree on the goals for the session. Finally start with the practical goal which is to go over the concepts they need to learn to pass a class or approve a specific test. At the end of the session I make a summary of the topics reviewed and make sure they understand what are the next steps they need to follow in order to achieve their specific goals.
