My name is Stephen, and my hope is that my enthusiasm for history will translate to your success in the subject. I earned a BA in History from Hillsdale College and hold a minor in German language. My specialty is in 19th century European statecraft and warfare but I can help with anything from Rome to modern day. Oftentimes, history is taught as a boring task of memorizing names and dates which have no meaning. However, is not only about the accumulation of names and dates, it is so much more.
My academic training began at Trinity College in Ireland where I enrolled as a student of Politics, Philosophy, and Economics. Realizing that I wanted more and captivated by the common ground that all three disciplines occupied, history, I transferred to Hillsdale College where I began to seriously study the subject and ultimately graduate with my bachelors in History. I have worked in both UK politics and at an economic think thank in London assisting a member of the House of Lords in writing a history of UK economic policy. Most recently, I worked as a high school history teacher focusing on World History where I developed my own curriculum, textbook, and tests.
History is more than a job or something I chose from a course catalogue. I truly love the discipline and believe that a real knowledge of history is an essential trait for a person to possess. That being said, history, when studied correctly, does not have to be a chore. Working with me, I know that history can be done in a way that both is enjoyable and helps your grade!
