During a typical lesson I begin with a thought provoking question or image of the topic. I then introduce the learning objectives and proceed to deliver the topic by starting with an overview introduction. After the introduction I use Depth-of Knowledge (DOK) questioning strategies to help the student understand the essential ideas. I then proceed to cover the topic in-depth and use DOK questions to verify that the students understand the topic and are mastering the concept. As the lesson progresses, I use Biology STAAR questions to check for understanding. At the end of the lesson, I verify that the student has understood the topic using an exit ticket. I review the exit ticket with the student and use the opportunity to teach test taking strategies at the same time.
