Hi, I'm Julia! I graduated cum laude from Baylor University with a Bachelor's in Neuroscience, and I am currently attending medical school. The Baylor Honors College selected me to be in the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core (BIC) and the Honors Program. As an honors student, I analyzed literature from different cultures, drafted numerous essays, published a thesis, and developed my interpersonal skills by engaging with my peers in class discussions. I recognized my passion for serving others as I helped edit my friends' essays, led group study sessions, and created study sheets for others to benefit from. As a current medical student, I am experienced in a wide variety of science subjects and would love to share my knowledge.
In addition to helping my peers with our classwork, I have years of experience mentoring and editing essays. As a Pre-Health Mentor at Baylor, I hosted weekly classes for eight first-year students. We discussed various topics, such as professionalism and issues in healthcare. I made unique presentations for each lesson to increase engagement, encouraged the students to share their thoughts, and guided them through the learning process. I also devoted time outside of class to edit their essays for their medical school applications and build their written communication skills.
My teaching philosophy is to form a connection with students so they feel comfortable asking questions and sharing their voices. I am dedicated to enriching their learning experience by strengthening their confidence, encouraging them to discover new ways of thinking, and allowing them to practice their new skills. Most importantly, I will always provide a summary at the end of the session to review the material and remind them how much they improved.
