Currently ONLINE tutoring only. I am a certified professional private tutor with an expertise in languages (English, French, and Italian), Test Preparation (SAT, ACT, STAAR, TOEFL, PSAT, ISEE, ESL, IELTS, and AP), Humanities, and Art. I employ U.S. and European methods to help my students achieve the best results exceptionally fast. In particular, I use a Subject Immersion method, similar to those used in foreign service schools, based on customized curricula (I am experienced in subject immersion because I was an instructor/tester for diplomats at a school in Washington D.C.).
My Bachelor’s degree is in English and Philology; my Master's degree in European Studies and Business is from the George Washington University, D.C.; I also completed International Relations coursework at Georgetown University (D.C.); and extensive language and culture studies in Naples (Italy), Nice (France), and Quebec (Canada). I teach English, French, and Italian, which are languages I grew up with and studied at universities in Europe and the United States. For the past 30 years, I have taught students of all ages and backgrounds, helping them increase their scores and grades from 20% to 90%-100%, often with just a few lessons. Bible Studies

I am a certified English teacher with over 20 years in tutoring. I was baptised Greek-Orthodox Christian in Europe (Romania), and I also converted to Judaism in 2008 in the United States based on my father's family history and my Biblical convictions. My Conservative Jewish formal education lasted 2 years and was completed at the Adas Israel Synagogue in Washington D.C. under the supervision of several rabbis who provided Biblical history lessons for 1 year. Subsequently, I pursued Jewish studies in New York City, and have continued to research Orthodox Christian (and other Christian sources) as my personal interest. I base all my information exclusively on classical authors and acknowledged Biblical exegeses. As a tutor of European languages and cultures, I have had many Christian students here in Texas, and we have had extensive interesting conversations on Biblical topics. I view the religious culture of the United States as uniquely pro-Biblical and wise, in that it has allowed the merging of the Christian and the Jewish traditions promoting their common root for a strengthening of Abrahamic spirituality. I would look forward to supporting my students in their Biblical goals.

I am a European tutor trained in British English, and I have been living in the United States (as a U.S. citizen) for the past 17 years. Writing is a very complex skill that, in fact, differs from one culture to another. Writing well implies one's familiarity with diverse and complex texts and grammatical structures; on a higher level, such as literary writing, it also requires philological training (philology= "love of words") which is a European traditional method less known in the United States. I have provided both traditional SAT training and SAT philological training (which includes rhetoric, grammatical and psychological analysis, creative writing) to my SAT students with excellent results. My 25-year experience has covered writing articles, translation of American novels, translation of management and marketing books for a British university, American English conference/simultaneous interpreting, as well as constant tutoring to students and adults. I am certified in SAT Writing, Reading, ACT, Public Speaking, Vocabulary, Creative Writing, Child psychology, foreign languages, philology and business/international affairs.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I have been a Special Needs private tutor since 1994 and a SPED/Dyslexia teacher with several Texan schools. My qualifications in Special Needs were initially obtained in Europe (Romania and Italy) where I worked as a private teacher with Motivation, a British charity. I studied Montessori directly in Italian in Naples, Italy where I taught English to private Italian clients's children. Most recently, I have obtained a certification in Multisensory Teaching Approach (MTA/Dyslexia, Kris Smith's program) in Texas, and I have been teaching Dyslexia/Dysgraphia/SPED students also at a public school. I hold a Bachelor's degree that includes Child Psychology credits and I practiced with special needs children (wheelchair-bound cerebral palsy patients) at Romanian orphanages; in addition, I worked as a teacher and translator for UNICEF in Bucharest, Romania. In the United States, since 2012, I have taught children diagnosed with mild psychiatric affections (functional level). My curriculum-based lessons have rendered superior results because I employ the original/Italian Montessori method of selecting materials that fit each student's psychological profile: the materials (often a combination of traditional tales, related cartoons, interactive discussions involving reading, drawing, music, and writing) stimulate my students to perform at their best during our classes. Looking forward to helping you or your child in reaching your goals!
STAAR

STAAR

I have been teaching STAAR since 2012 particularly to foreign students grades 4th through 8th. My method is English immersion adapted for STAAR goals: it covers not only STAAR book exercises, but also the basics of English grammar and STAAR vocabulary to ensure proper performance in the Reading and Writing sections. My students have obtained grades that satisfied the most competitive schools' expectations.
TOEFL

TOEFL

I have taught TOEFL and English over the past 25 years, in international environments, and my students have always received the best grades. Currently I employ a personalized immersion English (grammar and literature) method that allows students to learn fast all the necessary information. I taught and tested diplomats in Washington D.C. and Virginia, where diplomatic schools teach such language-immersion courses to ensure the best performance of students on tests like ILR, TOEFL, and foreign service exams.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

Vocabulary tutoring, college level, since 2003 BA English and Philology (languages and cultures) MA International Affairs/ European Studies and Business Editor University of Texas Linguist, Open University Business School UK Communications Director and editor, Conservative Party USA English/foreign language Tutor and Examiner, diplomatic school Washington DC fiction translator (novels from American authors) Director, Diplomat Languages: train/test foreign language grammar and cultures training/testing TOEFL, SAT, AP, ILR published literary articles, poetry in American and European journals
World History

World History

I have been teaching World History and European History in the United States and Europe for the past 20 years, and my students have dramatically improved their scores after the first several hours of study together. My method is to provide shortcuts to understanding the larger picture of historic events so that students could think through the overall historical processes and write comprehensive essays; once a student has the necessary knowledge for competitive AP essay writing, the MCQ sections become much easier to complete.
Writing

Writing

My English Writing experience covers SAT Writing, test prep (STAAR, AP, PSAT), and creative writing tasks performed during a 30-year career spent in the United States and Europe. Through Wyzant, I offer Intensive-Immersion Writing courses that have been very successful with all my students: they received lessons covering writing principles, test-taking tips, rhetorics, vocabulary, essay writing, and grammatical patterns; moreover, I have trained students in Essay Writing, Creative Writing, and helped them complete college writing projects. My method is personalized, based on each student's needs and goals. My qualifications are: BA in English, MA in International Affairs, extensive work as an English editor/translator for Open University Business School (UK), and published author of articles and poems (LiterArt XXI, 2002, GA).

Wonderful!

Our daughter had only two lessons with Gabriela and she already has a better understanding of many of the fundamentals she has missed in high school. She has also gained much needed confidence! Thank you!

Very helpful

Gabriela is very organized and sent a preliminary assignment before the lesson. This was our first meeting and I was pleasantly surprised. I will continue with Gabriela, and have canceled another tutor that I had planned to use simultaneously.

Patient and knowlegable

This is just the first lesson, but she did a great job identifying what level my daughter was at and has a lesson plan for her. I think she will be able to get my daughter back on track with reading and writing.

Knowledgeable and patient

I was interested in learning French. I wasn’t needing to learn for school or any classes. I just wanted to learn the language. Gabriela is such a great tutor! She works with my learning style, explains things well and is patient with me. I’ve improved in just two sessions. I highly recommend.

Knowledgeable and helpful

Great command on language. Keen listener and observer. My first class itself was very effective and helped me a lot. She takes genuine interest to help her students and does provides the relevant feedback. Vast knowledge and several years of experience makes her really good on what she does

Easy to work with

We were more interested in conversational Italian because we will be visiting there in October. She was very accommodating. We learned how to ask for directions and order food in a restaurant.
