I spent all four years of college working in student support departments. I have three years of tutoring experience from working at my university's Supplemental Instruction program. Essentially, I would attend a freshman level American History course as a student employee, as I had gotten an A when I took it, and host weekly study sessions because the course had a high drop/failure rate. These sessions would follow lessons plan I made based on course content with input from the professors and were student-led and collaborative. I would re-teach information then have the students work on an activity to reinforce the information. I had several students tell me that they believed my sessions were the reason why the passed with a B or A, grades higher than what they expected going into the course.
While I primarily professionally tutored for American History, I am also a proficient writer and can assist with essays. My fields of study in college were writing intensive, so I worked with my professors to find writing strategies to improve my work. With these strategies, I became a better writer. I can specifically assist with: proofreading, grammar/syntax, research, comparing texts for synthesis essays, thesis planning, outlining, and citations.
My goal is to create academic confidence in students. I want any student who works with me to feel more empowered as a student.
