8 years working with college, graduate and medical students and medical residents to set personal and career goals, identify issues and choose strategies that build on individual strengths. In weekly, biweekly or monthly coaching sessions, explore and develop your potential as your life, work or study becomes more manageable.

Specializing in transition planning for higher education and workplace contexts.
Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning

4 years as Learning Specialist evaluating university and graduate students' needs and assigning to and mentoring their progress in academic coaching program, as well as contributing to Student Disability Accommodations committee. 6 years as Learning Specialist for medical students, including ADHD and broader Executive Function coaching for pre-med and medical students and residents, from time management, resource selection, course and USMLE test preparation to specific coaching in thinking patterns, identifying EF-related barriers and designing personalized systems to enable successful task and exam completion. 2 years Executive Function coaching with high school students- professionals as an independent contractor, simultaneously providing faculty and graduate student professional development on EF recognition and support through Univ of Chicago, Univ of Houston, Duke Univ, and Boston Children's Hospital. My EdD is in Educational Leadership with a Reading concentration (Science of Reading- teaching methods and assessing for and intervening in reading-based disorders) and my post-graduate work includes an Autism Spectrum Disorder support graduate certificate. My doctoral research centered on metacognition and its role in study and project tasks, with executive functions being a core component of exploring how we think and how the thoughts translate into action or barriers for action. Executive function coaching with me starts with learning more about the student as a person and the context in which they live and work (student- HS, college, graduate or professional school; career, parent, etc.).
MCAT

MCAT

I have guided university juniors in the JAMP (Joint Admission Medical Program in Texas) summer program multiple years, as well as individual private students, in breaking down the details of their score reports, implementing info from the score report into study strategies, how many and when to do practice tests, and specific reading strategies for the CARS (reading) section. I also wrote an MCAT preparation module for Baylor College of Medicine, and MCAT Prep and CARS strategies modules for a medical prep company.
Praxis

Praxis

My training and vast experience includes promoting executive functions (including for adult ADHD, dyslexia/graphia/calculia, ASD) in study planning and managing focus and anxiety during timed standardized tests. I draw upon my 21 years as an educator as well as content from my Master's in Ed, Curriculum & Instruction with ESL specialization and my Doctorate in Educational Leadership with Reading specialization. I have been privileged to help dozens of education students pass the TExES, which correlates (both content and question-style wise) to the national PRAXIS, and I am looking forward to supporting future educators nationwide in their certification process.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I have experience developing study skills in students of all ages, including skills in organization, note taking, memory aids, pre-reading and scanning text, self-assessment, prioritizing tasks and time management.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

I have 5 years experience teaching university-level composition and research writing. I have myself successfully completed a doctoral dissertation project and understand both the technical/content demands and the project management aspect, so I can address both in sessions. My experience as a Learning Specialist and Academic Coach, combined with my knowledge of writing practices and dissertation/theses, means that I can be a one-stop shop for individuals who need writing feedback and research guidance, as well as coaching regarding the process and tasks themselves. This includes lots of experience working with graduate students with ADHD, ASD, anxiety, depression, dyslexia, and other neurodivergent conditions. My editing services are available mid-project, for proposal/prospective defense, and for final defense, and include direct edits of mechanical errors and APA format, and detailed comments with action items for writing, unclear content, or unclear/missing references.
Turkish

Turkish

I have experience teaching beginning to intermediate level Turkish as a second language, including listening and speaking skills, as well as formal and informal writing.
USMLE

USMLE

4 years of guiding hundreds (230 per class) of medical students through the long prep and strategy of USMLE Step1 and 2, with occasional support to PGY1 residents for Step 3. Literally co-wrote the guide on increasing the success of ADA accommodation requests for USMLE exams. I'm crazy good with the breakdown and classification of exam content and dissecting your practice exam score reports to design and adjust your plan as we go. Note that I'm a Learning Specialist, with a doctorate in learning, and can help you manage learning anything, while factoring in your personal strengths, challenges, motivations (or lack), time management and sleep cycle, levering neuroscience for the win! If you need a teacher/tutor for the science content specifically, that's different than what I offer, but it's been my experience that what I offer is harder to find...

A caring tutor who builds skills and confidence

Becca is very knowledgeable about test-taking strategies and has helped improve my study skills as a medical student. She taught me how to tackle a dense load of information while keeping up with past material during my prep for the USMLE Step 1 exam. Becca guided me in making a detailed study plan for the upcoming week(s), working through test anxiety, and identifying knowledge gaps. She also helped me navigate applying for test accommodations and rescheduling my exam when my eligibility period had expired. Most importantly, Becca has created a supportive learning environment by meeting her students where they are at and utilizing an individualized approach to learning. Her expertise and passion for education helped me to pass Step 1 and to develop a valuable skill set to move forward confidently in my medical career. I am looking forward to working with Becca as I take on my shelf and Step 2 exams!

Kind, understanding and highly qualified

I have adult Dyslexia and was diagnosed at age 18. There were not many tools back then. Now at 58 yrs. Old I have encountered an exam that I am having trouble successfully pass ing. Rebecca understood this and was so helpful in giving me some great tools that are working. I’m still in the studying stage but her tools and help has impacted my process. Thank you so much Rebecca!

#1

I had the privilege of working with Becca to prepare for my residency interviews. I believe her expertise surpasses that of many PDs. She really knows and love what she is doing! Extensive experience in all aspects of the process and a deep understanding of the nuances of each case. Very accommodating in terms of scheduling and responsive to texts. I highly recommend Becca to MDs seeking expert interview coaching.

Exceptional Dissertation Support

My first session with Becca was exceptional! She is really easy to talk to, supportive, warm, enthusiastic, and, most importantly, incredibly knowledgeable. Her years of experience coaching students through their research and dissertations are evident. She provides practical knowledge about writing and research, as well as guidance on mindset, expectations, and countless other supportive suggestions. If you're looking for a coach who will keep you organized and motivated while also helping with the technical aspects of your work, I highly recommend reaching out to Becca for support!

Practical, Low-Stress Support for USMLE Step 2 improvement

I had several sessions with Becca for USMLE Step 2 preparation. Becca provided great insight into the shortfalls I'd encountered in my previous, independent study, and she supplied me with quick, simple strategies to better analyze and address my weak areas. She provided me with easy-to-implement, useful techniques to improve my mental focus and minimize test-taking anxiety. In about 6 weeks, I went from scoring well below the passing threshold in practice exams to scoring at or above the mean on test day. Becca is a gifted and dedicated tutor, and I felt she took genuine interest in both my preparation and my ultimate success. I highly recommend her to anyone interested in USMLE preparation.

Great tutor!

I can speak very little English. We have a conversation about various topics in addition to an exercise of the pronunciation in her lesson. She is a very good tutor hearing my story patiently.
