I am a dedicated educator and mentor with extensive experience in Deaf Studies and American Sign Language (ASL). With a bachelor’s degree in Business and a master’s degree in Deaf Studies, I have spent over 25 years shaping the field of interpreter training within accredited programs.
Currently, I serve as an assistant professor- 25 years and counting, teaching ASL classes and Visual Gestural Communication in an accredited sign language and interpreter training program at a local community college. As a certified ASL teacher and credentialed member of the American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA), I am committed to advancing ASL instruction and fostering accessible communication.
In addition to teaching at a community college, I served as a Deaf Education teacher at the high school level for 4 years. Passionate about empowering Deaf learners and strengthening the bridge between Deaf and hearing communities, I continue to contribute to Deaf education, and interpreter education through leadership, curriculum development, assessment of learning outcomes and advocacy for the Deaf community.
Whether you are learning ASL as a hobby, taking a class in high school, studying for a test, or working toward becoming an interpreter, I can help you reach your goals. My background in education and my teaching certification qualify me to work with students online and create a simple, effective approach to learning about ASL, Deaf culture, and strategies to improve conversational skills.
Learning ASL from a Deaf teacher is the best way to truly understand the language and culture. Let’s sign together!
