My instruction is grounded in explicit instruction, meaning I clearly explain skills and strategies before asking students to apply them independently. Through careful modeling and explanation, guided practice with immediate feedback, and independent work reviewed with success criteria, students are able to build stronger foundations in reading and writing while also developing independence and confidence.

Throughout my career, I've worked with many students who've struggled to pass either the STAAR English I End of Course Exam or STAAR English II End of Coruse Exam. I've also taught English EOC Remedial classes where the focus has been providing students with targeted intervention supports to improve their performance and pass their pending English EOC exam. Through reviewing the Performance Level Descriptors (PLDs) and analyzing student's previous performance and comparing them to the PLDs, I develop a plan of action to help students improve in EOC-assessed readiness standards that they underperformed in.

I have strong expertise teaching high school writing to students who face academic and socioeconomic challenges. My instruction centers on explicit teaching of sentence structure, paragraph development, organization, and the writing process, with step-by-step modeling and feedback. I break writing tasks into manageable components and provide structured practice to support struggling writers. By combining high expectations with consistent support, I help students improve clarity, coherence, and confidence in their writing.
