To whom it may concern,
My name is Clay R and I have been assigned to student teach for the band program
during the fall 2021 semester. I am currently getting my degree from Oklahoma Christian University in Instrumental Music Education with aspirations of being a high school percussion educator.
In 2017, I graduated from Douglas MacArthur High School in San Antonio, TX. During my time at MacArthur, I was front ensemble section leader and center marimba my junior and senior year. Preceding those years, I played xylophone and glockenspiel freshman year as well as marimba 4 sophomore year. I have had experience performing in multiple marching competitions as well as being able to perform with MacArthur Indoor Percussion in the Texas Color Guard Circuit and Winterguard International. While in college, I have had the honor of being a contracted front ensemble member of Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps through 2020 and 2021. During my free time, I love to go to coffee shops (suggestions are welcomed), hang out with friends, and attend or watch sporting events.
My highest priority as an educator is to not only grow in my pedagogy for the pageantry arts, but to also make an impact on your students in their journey as a musician. One of my philosophies as an educator is if I cannot challenge students to do their best, I am not doing my job. I want you to know that I am approachable. If you need help with anything music related, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT ME (I will leave my email at the bottom of this letter). I do ask that if you contact me, please allow me to respond in a timely manner.
I look forward to the possibility of working alongside you this semester and continuing the great legacy of the band. I hope to meet all of you soon.
