Hi there! I'm Sam, an enthusiastic software engineer hoping to de-code the code for you. I started from almost no programming knowledge to now working as a mid-level Software Engineer at one of the fastest growing US companies. My daily life is all about building consumer-facing web applications while working with a huge team of senior and junior engineers. Although there is a stereotype about software engineers being “anti-social,” my experience is the complete opposite. I have a passion for collaboration and mentorship, helping all of the junior developers to hone their skills and improve their knowledge. I constantly build tutorials, how-to’s, and provide feedback in a patient and supportive manner. I am known quite well as the engineer that works well with other team members. I believe my success in mentoring and teaching comes from my background, which was not initially in programming.
I was initially a pre-med student and graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor's in Psychobiology. I learned about how the human brain works and what allows us to learn/remember things. Post graduation, I worked in a research lab while contemplating my medical path. There, I collaborated on large scale research projects and mentored other students and even managed a small team. Toward the end of my year there, I began looking into programming classes at UCLA. This is where my passion initially developed. Falling in love, I decided to forego medical school and did a 6-month intensive programming bootcamp instead. I learned all things web development, building my own projects and a website by the end of it. Soon after, I started a Master’s program in Computer Science focused on Software Engineering from North American University. A month later, I was hired at a startup called Ultra Mobile. Since I joined this company, we have grown to twice our size and I have gotten an enormous amount of experience and gained invaluable skills that I want to share. I know I can be a resource to you and get you where you need to go. Let’s do it!
