My name is Daniel (or Danny). The majority of my life has been focused around mathematics education. Of course, I enjoy other things (Escape Rooms, play volleyball, ride roller coasters, etc.) but as far as my passion is concerned, I've always loved helping students get over that initial hurdle that comes with learning a subject for the first time.

Throughout my years of tutoring, I have mentored students at a variety of levels, all in the field of mathematics. My tutoring experience ranges from elementary mathematics up through Calculus I, II, and my favorite subject: Statistics. Because of this experience, I am aware of the skills that are particularly important for students to internalize and grasp for later topics in the course, and to succeed in future courses.

Regardless of the student's level, I always adjust my approach to match their needs. This helps us to make the best use of our time so that the student can benefit as much as possible during our sessions. What I love most about tutoring is watching a student come out the sessions with both a new set of skills, as well as a renewed appreciation for the subject. I often find that mathematical skills translate directly with the student's level of confidence for the subject, so it's my job to aim to improve both!

I have earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, a Master's degree in Statistics, and a doctoral degree focusing on Statistics in Educational Psychology. Still, I never lose sight of how it feels to be learning a subject for the first time. Because of this, my tutoring approach is usually aimed to help my students based on their needs and their current level of understanding, rather than my own.

I encourage you to reach out to me if you feel that you are struggling with specific math skills, if you feel that you have missed a set of skills that are needed for a current course, or if you are aiming to improve your skills for an upcoming test or future courses. I am happy to meet with you so that we can learn together! :)

Biostatistics

Biostatistics

While obtaining my Master's degree in Statistics, I served as the lead Teaching Assistant (TA) for a class of 100 students at the University of Texas at Austin for two consecutive semesters. As the TA for Biostatistics, I led lab lectures, held office hours, and graded assignments throughout the semester. In particular to the lab component of the course, the students primarily used the R software for data analyses, and this is what I am most familiar with.
Statistics

Statistics

After obtaining my Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, I chose to focus my concentration on Statistics. I obtained my Master's degree in Statistics and Scientific Computation at the University of Texas at Austin. I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Educational Psychology, with an emphasis on Quantitative Methods (statistical procedures used for educational research). I have also taught an Introductory Statistics course at the University of Texas at Austin, been a TA for numerous graduate level Statistics courses, and have tutored students in classes such as Introductory Statistics, Biostatistics, Research Methods, and more.

Absolutely the best, most accessible, friendly, knowledgeable, and patient (!!!) tutor I have been lucky enough to learn from.

Its a lot of superlatives, I know. But honestly, it is all true. I was majorly fricked four weeks into my graduate business stats and Daniel dug me out and brought my grade up to an A. It had been seven years since I had been in school, and I was really ready to just give. up. I used two other tutors before Daniel and I was still in the weeds. And then this lovely, polite, kind, and major smart dude floated down from the heavens and into my life. I'm chatty, easily distracted, and about a decade too old to be student; but none of that phased Daniel. He was supportive and generous. He took time and care with my ridiculous predicament that no other tutor would have taken. I took fifteen lessons from Daniel and by the end I was genuinely sad for it to end. He took all the verbose and the minutiae and the "is that in another language" and showed me how it all made sense. And even when it didn't at first, he was still supportive, kind, and patient. Oh so patient. He is worth the time and monetary investment ten times over. Thank you Daniel!!! You always have a place to stay in California!

Very knowledgeable, great explanations, and patient

I appreciate the time and thorough explanations that were directly related to the assignment that I was working on. He took the time to review the assignment and provide feedback as appropriate.

Throughout last semester, Daniel has been extremely helpful in helping me learn statistics. I haven't taken that many math courses on my record and Daniel made me more confident in a tough math topic. Daniel is very kind and easily breaks down tough equations so that you can understand. I ended up getting an A-minus in my class. I highly recommend his services as a tutor. Best math tutor I've ever had.

Amazing Tutor that explains abstract concepts so that you can understand them!

I have had 2 wonderful lessons with Daniel, he is patient and extremely accommodating. I am a active duty Navy Nurse Educator and I know first hand how important it is to help students in their time of need! He is extremely knowledgeable in Biostatistics and he prepared during each lesson to teach you everything that you need to know! Thank you Daniel and I will look forward to working with you in the future! I am a current PhD applicant and so passing my course with a B or better is necessary to gain entry into my program. I am so glad I found the right tutor! All the Best, Akeeka S. Davis, MSN, MBA, BSHCS, BSN, (RN-BC)

Best tutor I’ve had

Daniel is constantly prepared and review the material before he teaches it to you. He’s amazing at breaking down difficult concepts and procedures and I found him to be an overall better teacher than many of my Harvard professors. He is worth every cent and more and helped me grasp very difficult concepts that would have been overall lost to me without him. Thank you Daniel! You really are the best tutor I’ve had, and I have had many in my life!!

Daniel has good in depth understanding of statistics topics. He was clear in his explanations and included examples to clarify concepts. I plan to take more lessons from him. Strongly recommended.

Do You Have Statistics Anxiety?

Do you deer-in-the-headlight when your prof asked you to explain residuals? Or regression analysis? Or adjusted R squared? Well, fear no more! Daniel not only knows stats inside and out, he can teach you to know it, too!! I’ve worked with a few other stats tutors here on WyzAnt as I’ve been completing an MA in Sociology. And while I believe they knew their subject matter well, they simply couldn’t make it as relatable or fun as Daniel. A native English speaker who is well worth his hourly rate is a precious commodity on this site - don’t waste your time and money elsewhere.
