Hi, I am Chiharu, and I was a top 10% tutor nationwide in 2019 and 2020. I am originally from Kyoto, Japan, and I speak both Japanese and English. I graduated from a prestigious college in Japan and taught English for several years before coming the United State. I completed my master’s degree in Boston and has taught Japanese and English at several universities, prestigious high schools, and language schools. I also give private language lessons to a wide variety of students including...

She never quits!
The level of energy and passion for Japanese language learning is consistent. She brings a high level of intensity to the lesson which require hours of self study to reciprocate. Don't expect hand holding. You need to do the work. She has dropped homework assignments which require hours to compete. Only for the serious learner.

Great Teacher, Patient and Knowledgeable
Chiharu is an excellent tutor. She is patient, knowledgeable and great at teaching. She helps you improve in all areas very effectively. Speaking, writing and comprehending especially. Every lesson had a component of speaking, which I think is extremely helpful and might be something you miss in a regular classroom. In my studies with her, I not only studied the language, but she also taught me a lot about the culture, and helped me understand the language in a way a textbook alone wouldn’t be able to. She was also very accommodating to my schedule, which is a huge plus. I have learned so much from here and am very happy to have been her student. I cannot reccommend her enough.

Great tutor, very easy to talk with
So far we have done a lot of great work on speaking proficiency. She also has a really good understanding of the Tobira textbook, which makes deciding lesson content very easy, and the lessons very efficient. Would definitely recommend her as a tutor.

Dynamic and Fun
The reviews of Chiharu outlined a tutor who was fully devoted to the craft of teaching the Japanese language. They were accurate with their description of this amazing tutor. None of the reviews are inflated. Chiharu makes the pain of the language tolerable while delivering accurate information - grammar and vocabulary. I would highly recommend her for learners at any level.

Fun, easygoing and skilled tutor!
As a beginner learning Japanese, Chiharu was incredibly kind, patient and thorough in her teachings. Although we used the Genki textbook during our lessons, she always went on to explain more about the subject and why the way things were. She made sure that I understood what was being taught and what would be expected in the future if you ever go to Japan or speak Japanese in real world scenarios. She made the sessions incredibly fun because she has an easygoing personality, which makes learning Japanese with her enjoyable. We worked on grammar, vocabulary and practiced having conversations which enabled me to say that with a bit more hard work I can be confident in my Japanese communication skills thanks to Chiharu! I was always looking forward to the sessions because learning with Chiharu was the best. No questions were ever left unanswered, I highly recommend her as a tutor for anyone trying to start learning or wanting to brush up on their Japanese.

Engaged, dedicated, and passionate teacher
Chiharu-sensei has been of tremendous help to me since our first lesson. Having spent some time in Japan, I had learned some of the basics of Japanese but had also picked up a number of bad habits. Chiharu-sensei has been thoughtful, patient, and thorough in helping me correct these issues. She's help me engage in the study of Nihongo in a really meaningful way, and she brings much experience, humor, and diligence to our lessons. Always finding ways to engage me on my level, she's helped put difficult grammar, vocabulary, punctuation, and speech styles in context so that I may utilize them more naturally going forward. Classes are always fun, challenging, geared to my needs as well as sensitive to my schedule. It has been my tremendous pleasure to study under Chiharu-sensei. I look forward to continuing my lessons with her in the years ahead.

Friendly, Knowledgeable, and Flexible Teacher
Chiharu Sensei is an excellent instructor, who manages to juggle the complex task of introducing several writing systems, vocabulary, grammar, and mixing it together into natural sentences, all for a language that is notoriously difficult for a foreigner to learn. I was speaking full, albeit simple sentences, in my first lesson, and creating my own by the next week! On top of being highly-capable at transmitting information, she manages to make lessons enjoyable as well. I've yet to have a single lesson that feels overly serious, and she treats me as a student, rather than a paycheck. Finally, she is quite flexible as a teacher, allowing me to go at my own pace, giving suggestions on what I should do to achieve my goals with the language, and giving recommendations beyond the bare minimum her job requires. For anyone unsure about going to her for tutoring, let me put aside any doubts, she will not disappoint.
