I started out my career as a school teacher, teaching middle school and high school math. After a few years, I wanted to do something different, so I joined the Army as a Mathematician/Statistician, but most of the work that I did was writing programs in FORTRAN and Basic. I became an officer and went on to learn COBOL and some database theory. I ended up doing more management than computer work, but I always kept my hand in helping others with their programming. I left active duty, and went to work for the Army as a civilian Statistician. Again, I wrote programs and performed maintenance on programs that allowed others to do the statistical work. I wrote code in FORTRAN, COBOL, Basic, Pascal, Delphi (which is Borland's version of Pascal), Assembler, C, and SAS. I moved from that into an actual Computer Programmer position where I developed Microsoft Access databases, and wrote programs using C, C++, and Visual Basic for Applications. I moved from there to a job as an Operations Research Analyst, and did statistics, programming, developed computer models and simulations. I wrote code in C, C++, JavaScript, Java, and SAS. After 38 years of federal service, I will retire at the end of May 2015.

I am married and have two sons in the computer field and a daughter that works with animals. I have one grandson who will be 4 in August. I initially came to San Antonio with the Army, and loved the city and decided that this is where I would go when I left the military. I have been in San Antonio since 1988 and love it here. My sons and daughter all live in San Antonio, so I do not have to go far to see them. I have tutored some of my friends' children who were having problem in math. When working one-on-one, it feels good when you finally see the light in their eyes when they finally understand a concept. I have patience to work with students to go over a topic multiple ways until I hit on a way that they understand. I have always enjoyed passing on the knowledge that I have and helping others learn. And I would like to

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Algebra was my first love in mathematics. It came easy to me, but I understand how it confuses others. I have tutored students in Algebra and been able to explain concepts in multiple ways until I see the light come on in the student.
Bible Studies

Bible Studies

I have taught Sunday School classes and small group Bible studies. I have had training from the Precept Ministry on how to study the Bible and have taught classes based on their material.
C

C

I started writing C code in the early 1990s. I wrote extensively in both DOS and Unix environments. I assisted others in writing and debugging their C code. I wrote one system that was used by the Army for over 10 years.
C++

C++

I have been writing code in C++ since 1998. I have been teaching introductory C++ since 1999 and advanced C++ since 2001. I have also developed and taught classes on C++ Standard Template Library and C++ Microsoft Foundation classes.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I taught junior high math for three years before joining the Army. Over the years I have assisted coworkers and others with their math issues.
Microsoft Access

Microsoft Access

I have been developing databases in Access since Access 2. I have developed systems using Access with the Visual Basic for Applications as the programming language in the background. When I was the treasurer of the church I attend, I developed an Access database and front end to manage the accounts of the church. I have developed queries using the wizard and by writing or modifying SQL. I understand, not only how to build a database, but the concepts of normalization in the design of the database to make it efficient.
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

I have been using Microsoft Excel for over 20 years. At work, I am the go to guy when anyone has problems with Excel. I have created complex formulas using built in functions and developed VBA code to do what wasn't already built into Excel.
Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint

I have been using PowerPoint for many years to do presentations. I have worked with transitions (how the slides change), animations (how items appear on the slide), setting timings so that the slides automatically change. I have also taught personnel how to build the presentation so that the slides are not too busy and to make them interesting to the viewer.
Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word

I use Word on a daily basis. I have worked with developing a Table of Contents for a long document, and an index. I have taught Word at a local Junior college. In previous job positions, I was the one people came to when they were having problems doing something in Word. I have always enjoyed sharing my knowledge with others.
SAS

SAS

I have been using SAS for data manipulation and data reporting for over 20 years. I have taken many of the SAS courses in person and through their Live Web training. I have perform data analysis of large datasets (hundreds or thousands of records) and know how to make queries most efficient. I have developed extensive macros that have reduced hundreds of lines of code to less than one hundred, so that there was minimal or no redundancy in the code.
