Howard Payne University (Chemistry)
Baylor University (Master's)
Hi! I'm Jen. I love helping students reach the "light bulb moment," where a concept is grasped and their eyes light up with understanding.
I have been tutoring, off and on, since my senior year in high school (almost 20 years ago), where I was 3rd in my class. After working as a tutor/lab assistant in college, I graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Chemistry (Biochemistry concentration) from Howard Payne University. The biochem concentration means I have numerous chemistry and biology classes under my degree. After some odd jobs, including scoring standardized tests, I worked in a food testing lab for more than 6 years, first as a chemistry tech, then as the chemistry supervisor. Even while in the lab, my favorite part was training others on the instruments and techniques used. I eventually decided to go back to school and graduated in 2014 from Baylor University with a Masters in Chemistry. While at Baylor, I taught labs, including General Chemistry, Intro to Bio-organic Chemistry (for nutrition majors), Biochemistry, and Physical Biochemistry. I strove to find ways to help the students understand the concepts covered and worked with each student as much as possible.
As a tutor, I can work with you one-on-one and find a way to help you understand the concepts giving you trouble. Let me help you with your science class, and we'll see what we can achieve together! Jennifer has been preparing my son to take a chemistry retake. He's a 7th grader at a charter school, since then I see him more confident in his skills. I thought I was going to have a hard time taking him to a tutor, since he's kind of shy, but he's actually very excited to go every time he has his class. Thanks Jennifer for all your wonderful help.
We just started tutoring with Jennifer, however first session went very well. My 16 yr. old son was impressed with Jennifer’s knowledge and said she was super “chill.”
Jennifer tutored my daughter for Pre AP Highschool Chemistry. My daughter recently took a test and earned an “A”, thanks to Jennifer. Great tutor, great person, thank you so much.
Jennifer took the time to review details I needed to understand so I could grasp the concept of what she was teaching. She was professional and very understanding of my learning curve
My daughter is always pleased with her tutoring sessions with Jennifer. She is always on top of things and organized. My daughter likes that she will review the material ahead of time for more efficient use of time and better teaching. Definitely recommend!
Jennifer is helping my daughter study for the ACT Science Section. My daughter says she is very thorough and patient and really lets her work through each problem instead of giving her the answers quickly. She has great teaching methods for answering the various types of questions on the ACT. We hired her for 2 times per week for a month before the exam.
It is so very difficult to find a tutor that is personable while still giving your child what is needed to exceed in the course. Jennifer was very perceptive with my daughter and read her face to see if the information was truly being absorbed. Jennifer would give a test question to confirm the knowledge and she did not linger and waste time on material already understood, but instead continued the lesson and gave me the best for my money. Again, good tutors are hard to come by and JENNIFER far exceeded. SHE IS A KEEPER!
Jennifer taught me chemistry. I liked that we went back to past lessons and we did a lot of practice. Jennifer helped me with my memorization and understanding of the topic.
Jennifer taught me the ins and outs acid base titrations. She was knowledgeable and patient. She was very thorough with her explanations and she did not compromise with anything
She helped me with preparing for my ACS exam for general chemistry II, and develop better studying skills. She went over my previous quizzes and exams I had taken in the class to help me work on the topics that I struggled with.
If you've ever needed tutor, chances are it's because you feel completely out of your league in a class, that's physics for me. Contacting Jennifer was one of the best choices I could have made when facing the nervous energy that comes with having no idea where to start. Our first session put me right to work, and while I still have a long way to go, Jennifer has the patience, and the right amount of encouragement to get me there. She's a wonderful teacher and clearly enjoys what she does. I actually look forward to seeing our efforts in my final grade!
Jennifer was simply amazing. A true benefit for my son. Her schedule was flexible, patience extraordinary and expertise on spot. Don't ever let her leave!!!
Jennifer greatly explained the material, and broke down every little detail to the whole problem. Once broken down, we pieced it back together to solve the whole problem. Very helpful, and patient!
My daughter has benefited from Jennifers teaching because she focuses on minor details most games or not notice which has helped my daughter improve her grade
Jennifer was great! She helped me understand the material and made me feel confident in what I was doing. I would definitely recommend her if your looking for a great tutor!
Jennifer helped me make sense of my biochem assignments. It's helpful to hear the complex concepts in simple terms that I understand. She's knowledgeable and patient. Highly recommended.
Jennifer was able to answer all of my questions and helped me understand the concepts even though I have a very minimal background in Biochemistry. I am definitely going to keep going to her for my educational needs and will recommend her to anyone who needs extra help in Chemistry.
I am a pre-med student and my sophomore year I had to take Biochemistry, a historically very difficult course. Jennifer has been great in making sure I understand all the concepts! She really knows her information and is great at explaining it in a way that is easy to understand. She is very accommodating and really wants you to understand and do well. I would definitely recommend her!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Biochemistry is my favorite subject. I love studying and understanding the chemistry of life. That is why my area of study in graduate school was biochemistry. I have taught biochemistry labs and can help you understand any of the concepts from the lectures or the labs.
I have a Master's in Chemistry and have been studying or working in the field of Chemistry for almost 20 years.
I earned A's in both Organic Chemistry I and II while at Howard Payne University for my undergraduate studies. I also tutored the subject at HPU. Later, at Baylor University for graduate school, I reviewed/studied all of the information from both classes for my qualifying exams. Since then, I have successfully tutored students in Organic Chemistry. I can help you meet your goals and succeed in your class.
