Bio

I have tutored undergraduate calculus for over 15 years, and
udergraduate statistics for 8 years. For the last 4 years, I
have tutored through online platforms, as well as within college
learning labs.

When I tutor, my first approach is to develop the students'
knowledge of a concept and the conditions under which it can

When I tutor, my first approach is to develop the students'
knowledge of a concept and the conditions under which it can
be applied. Also, understanding a concept's context can help
with understanding some "short cuts" that may typically be used.

Finally, it is my belief that a student beneits the most when
they attempt their homework before a tutoring session. It is
understandable, considering many of our hectic schedules, that
there may not have been time before a session to complete
practice assignments.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I tutor both Calculus and Statistics, so I've seen how algebra becomes a foundation for those later classes. In addition, I have completed a majority of the course work towards secondary math teacher certification; so I am aware of the topics covered at different points of a student's math sequence; especially regarding when topics are introduced in pre-algebra, algebra I, or algebra II.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I tutored Calculus for 10+ years, as well as algebra; so I have a good understanding of how the algebra concepts lay the foundations for the later calculus course work. Also, the calculus work creates more challenging algebra applications that may not be touched on in an algebra 2 course.
Calculus

Calculus

- Calculus tutoring experience: 10+ years, in college-based learning labs (still employed). - Experience includes single variable and multi-variable calculus - High proficiency with application problems; integration techniques, and infinite series - Tutoring experience includes both business calculus and engineering calculus courses
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I am familiar with multiple topics in discrete math, ranging from probability and statistics to number theory and network theory. As there is some variance in how the subject is taught, potential tutees need to bring class notes and textbooks to sessions.
Geometry

Geometry

I tutored Calculus for 10+ years, which includes geometry applications. In addition, college course work in math has strengthened proof development and analysis, which tends to be first heavily used in high school geometry. For online tutoring, there may be significant use of the geogebra.com web site, to illustrate construction proofs visually.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I tutored Calculus for 10+ years, as well as pre-calculus; so I have a good understanding of how the pre-calculus concepts lay the foundations for the later calculus course work.
Probability

Probability

Most experience is with introductory statistics classes and AP Statistics. Course work taken at UT Austin that focused on math foundations of statistics.
Statistics

Statistics

Most experience is with introductory statistics classes and AP Statistics. Course work taken at UT Austin that focused on math foundations of statistics. Software familiarity varies - have not invested in high-cost packages.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

I tutored engineering calculus for 10+ years, as well as trigonometry at Austin Community College. In addition, some physics applications rely heavily on trigonometry to resolve different vectors.

Knowledgeable and accommodating

Really appreciated his assistance. He knew everything I needed and we were able to get through an assignment with explanation much more quickly than I anticipated.

Knows calculus very well

Jody knows what he is doing. He has been a tutor in mathematics for a very long time and it shows. He is patient and will break down concepts. Most importantly he well not just give you the answer but instead lead you in the right direction.

Knowledgeable and patient

Mr Bean was able to present a different way to look at problems. Helpful in reviewing concepts. Plan to meet with him again. Appreciated meeting in a location convenient for both of us.
