I am a Texas-certified English Language Arts and Reading teacher with more than 17 years of experience in public education, and I currently work as an ELA Interventionist and Advisory Teacher in a virtual school setting. I hold Texas certifications in English Language Arts and Reading (Grades 8–12), Spanish (Grades 6–12), and ESL Supplemental (Grades 6–12), as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching.
Throughout my career, I have worked extensively with middle and high school students in both traditional classroom and individualized instructional settings. I currently support students with reading comprehension, writing, intervention, academic skills, and strategies for becoming more confident and independent learners.
I specialize in helping students strengthen reading comprehension, literary analysis, annotation, essay writing, grammar, vocabulary, research, and analytical writing. I especially enjoy helping students who understand what they want to say but need a clear framework for organizing their thinking and expressing it in writing.
My approach is individualized and supportive. I meet students where they are, identify specific areas for growth, and break challenging skills into manageable steps. I use modeling, guided practice, questioning, and gradually reduced support so students learn how to apply strategies independently rather than simply completing an assignment.
My goal as a tutor is not simply to help a student get through tonight's homework. It is to help them understand the skills behind the work so they can approach future reading and writing assignments with greater confidence and independence.
I also hold a Texas Spanish certification and have experience supporting multilingual learners, so I can provide additional support for students learning Spanish or students who benefit from an educator experienced in working with language learners.
