Hi! My name is Nycholas, and I’m a Computer Science and Physics student at St. Mary’s University. I have been tutoring since 2024, primarily helping students with mathematics and physics, and I also tutor Python programming. I enjoy working with students because I know how frustrating it can be when a subject seems difficult or when a professor explains something one way but it just doesn’t click for you. I tutor students in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and Calculus 1, as well as introductory physics and Python. My academic background includes Computer Science, Physics, and Applied Mathematics, and I regularly use mathematics and programming in my own coursework and projects. I also recently completed a computational biophysics research experience at Purdue University, where I used Python and scientific computing in a research environment. This experience has given me the opportunity to use programming and mathematics beyond the classroom and has strengthened my ability to approach complicated problems logically.
When I tutor, my goal is not simply to give a student the answer. I want them to understand how to arrive at the answer themselves and feel confident doing it the next time. I usually start by figuring out exactly where the student is getting stuck, then break the problem down into smaller steps and explain the reasoning behind each one. I’m patient with questions and am happy to approach a concept in a different way if the first explanation doesn’t make sense. Whether you are struggling to understand a fundamental Algebra concept, preparing for a Calculus exam, trying to understand a physics problem, or learning how to write and debug Python code, I will meet you at your current level and work from there. I want tutoring to feel like a collaborative process rather than a lecture, and my goal is for you to leave each session with a better understanding of the material and more confidence in your ability to solve problems independently.
