I am a TEA-certified English Language Arts & Reading teacher (grades 7–12) with five years of classroom experience and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from St. Mary's University. My background spans the full secondary ELAR curriculum, including four years teaching AP English Language and Composition at KIPP Somos Collegiate High School in San Antonio, Texas.
KIPP Somos is an "AP-For-All" school, meaning every student — regardless of proficiency level — is enrolled in AP coursework. This gave me extensive experience teaching across the full academic spectrum: students reading below grade level, on-level students, Special Education students with IEPs and 504s, and Gifted & Talented students. My AP Lang instruction focused on the three core FRQ essay types — synthesis, rhetorical analysis, and argument — with strategies aligned to College Board scoring rubrics. I have also completed the AP Summer Institute for AP English Language and Composition, a College Board professional development program for AP educators. Beyond AP, my experience covers literary analysis, argumentative and expository writing, grammar, vocabulary, and STAAR ELA preparation for grades 7–12.
In one-on-one settings, I begin by identifying the specific gaps holding a student back and building targeted sessions around those needs — timed essay practice and rubric-based feedback for AP students and scaffolded support for those who need to build foundational skills. If you're looking for a tutor with real classroom expertise and a proven track record with students of all levels, feel free to reach out — I'd love to discuss how I can help your student succeed.
