I have a degree in History and a Social Studies Composite Teaching Certificate, and I’ve been teaching for over seven years in both middle and high school settings. Along the way, I’ve had the chance to work with all kinds of students—and I truly enjoy getting to know each one. I also spent a year teaching 2nd grade in China, which opened my eyes to new perspectives on learning and helped me understand how important it is to meet students where they are, no matter their background or learning style.
In my class, we go beyond just memorizing names, dates, and facts. I believe history is so much more than a list of events—it’s about understanding why things happened, how people were affected, and what lessons we can learn today. I want you to walk away not just knowing what happened in the past, but thinking deeply about how those events shape our world now. We’ll dive into big ideas, ask important questions, and connect history to your own life in meaningful ways.
I also believe that having clear expectations makes everything run more smoothly. In my classroom, you’ll always know what’s expected of you—and what you can expect from me. I work hard to create a structured and supportive environment where you feel respected, confident, and comfortable speaking up. Whether you're someone who loves to participate or someone who prefers to observe and reflect first, you’ll have space to learn and grow at your own pace.
Most importantly, I understand that everyone learns differently. Some of us learn best by reading, others by doing, and some by seeing or hearing. I do my best to offer a variety of activities and teaching styles so that every student can find their strengths and build on them. My goal is to help you succeed—not just in this class, but in your ability to think critically, ask thoughtful questions, and be an informed, engaged member of the world around you.
