I’m Yolanda! I have been a certified teacher for 15 years. I am considered a Master Teacher by the Texas Teacher Evaluation System, which focuses on teacher practice and impact on students. My performance levels as a teacher are at the Distinguished and Accomplished Standards. I earned the Distinguished Standard due to the fact that I am a trainer of teachers. I was chosen to give professional development to over 100 kinder teachers.

I love to help students learn to read using phonics systems. I am certified in the Science of Reading and Estrellita Phonics Program. My classroom results speak for themselves as I am a top performer in MAP, a national standards assessment. With my Bilingual Generalist EC-4 certification, most of my classroom teaching experience has been with Early Childhood Education grades Pre-kindergarten, Kindergarten and First grade. My tutoring experience has been with students from Pre-kindergarten all the way up to 4th grade. I can help emerging readers of any age in both English and Spanish, or tutor students of any age to learn Spanish. I have taught General Education in English, Bilingual models in English and Spanish and English as a Second Language frameworks.

Once students are under my wing, I am committed to find the solutions that allow them to learn. This can be done one-on-one or with a small group. I am very approachable and it takes us (the student, parent and educator) to come up with a plan that leads to success.
