I am an experienced educator with an M.A. in Elementary Education with an emphasis in ESL from the University of New Mexico and a B.A. in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Mathematics Education from Seoul National University of Education. I also hold Elementary Teachers Qualification, Level 2 from Republic of Korea and NM K-8 Teaching License Level 1 (expired)
I have more than 20 years of experience teaching children through homeschooling, where I have taught Korean, math and other subjects from kindergarten through 12th grade. I also have professional classroom experience in both the United States and South Korea. My experience includes teaching elementary students, working in an inclusion classroom, teaching ESL, teaching at Korean school, and serving as a math, Korean and English instructor. I have also taught 5th- and 6th-grade Korean, math and English online.
My approach to tutoring is patient, encouraging, and individualized. I understand that students learn at different speeds. When a student struggles with math, I try to determine which foundational concept is causing the difficulty and then work step by step to help the student understand it. When teaching Korean language, I want to meet my student's need and wants. So I prepare the lesson accordingly. My goal is to help students understand the process and become more confident and be able to apply enjoying the subject.
I enjoy working with all different age groups. As both an experienced classroom teacher and a longtime homeschool teacher, I am comfortable adapting instruction to an individual student's needs, helping with homework, reviewing difficult concepts, and strengthening foundational math and Korean skills.
I would be happy to work with students who need regular tutoring, additional practice, homework support, or encouragement to become more confident and successful in the subjects.
