I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2020, earning both a Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics and a TESOL Certificate. During my college years, I was a Teacher's Assistant with the Arlington Public Library's Arlington Reads Program for 8 months and then I became an intern with the same program for 10 months. While I was an assistant, I assisted the teacher in carrying out various activities in the classroom and I also would help students one-on-one in the classroom if they had questions regarding different words of grammar concepts. When I became an intern, I still performed the same duties as when I was a Teacher's Assistant, but I had more of a teaching role in the class. At times, the teacher would have me take over the class if she wasn't able to teach that day and at times and she also let me create my own activities to implement in her lessons.
After my internship with the Arlington Public Library, I got a job there as an Adult ESL Instructor. During my time there, I taught Intermediate and Advanced English to adults of various ages and cultural backgrounds. I taught one online class and one in-person class. During both classes I would start my class with a warm-up question, typically pertaining to the topic of the lesson. Then, I would introduce the subject of the lesson. After introducing the concept, whether it was grammar or vocabulary, I would have students volunteer to create example sentences out of the taught concept. I would then put the students into groups to do an activity or game related to the content from the lessons. Whenever we would finish a unit, I would test the students by having them play a game of Jeopardy or another game of choice.
After a year of teaching, I resigned from my position to pursue other job opportunities and am now currently working at a library. At the library, I currently help with ESL conversation classes, but I have been missing teaching the language itself. I am excited to start teaching again!
