Howdy! My name is Joel and I’m a Texas A&M University aerospace engineering (BS and Ph.D.) graduate. At Texas A&M, I worked as a 1-on-1 tutor for freshman students in the science department who were on academic probation. Afterwards, I worked for a year as a Calculus III help-session leader where I reviewed concepts and provided homework help to students enrolled in the course. I have also tutored introductory physics (mechanics and electricity and magnetism). I have taught mainly first and second year undergraduate students, but am able to tutor high-school calculus and lower-level maths subjects (algebra/precalculus).

Mathematics and physics courses are challenging with the difficulty in understanding the topics exponentially increasing with poor instruction. Because the subjects build off of each other (especially in math), it is easy to fall behind and feel lost. My philosophy for tutoring is simple: be patient and understanding. Some topics are easier to understand by some students, while some may be challenging. Regardless of how one is doing in a class, my goal as a tutor is to help with both succeeding academically while as understanding the concepts, not just memorizing.

Calculus

Calculus

As an aerospace engineer, I use both differential and integral calculus almost daily. I have experience leading help sessions at Texas A&M, specifically for Calculus III, where I helped students struggling with homework and understanding concepts. I am able to help with Calculus I - Calculus III, included both undergraduate and AP Calculus AB and BC.
Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

I have a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering that with a focus in hypersonic aerodynamics. I have had to teach and train various undergraduate students in high-speed wind tunnel testing, fluid dynamics, and high-speed aerodynamics. I have taught both aerospace end mechanical engineers fluid mechanics.
Physics

Physics

From taking AP Physics 1 and C in high school to the vast array of courses during my college career, physics is the bedrock of aerospace engineering. I have extensive experience assisting with AP Physics C (both courses) and served as a 1-on-1 online tutor for one semester that enabled the student to successfully pass the course. I am able to tutor algebra-based and calculus-based physics courses for undergrads and high-school.
Precalculus

Precalculus

Having a solid understanding of pre-calculus lays the groundwork for succeeding in calculus. Mastering trigonometry, logarithms, and exponentials does not just improve one’s academic standing but can also allow for better understanding of personal finance among other things. As a working engineer, I use precalculus topics “on the job” almost daily.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

As a practicing aerospace engineer, I know the importance of understanding trigonometry and being apply the topic to other math and science subjects. Trigonometry is one of the fundamental concepts used in all areas of physics and calculus and mastering the subject is essential for success in those areas. I have

Great Tutor

Looking past his reasonable and graceful pricing for college level engineering courses, which are usually in the near 100's, Joel is a great tutor. He was very helpful and knowledgeable. He was flexible with his time, and very eager to make sure I understood the topics fully. I would recommend him to any engineering student who is struggling to grasp the more abstract topics of calculus etc.
