Hi! I'm Desiré, a passionate Chemistry and Algebra tutor with over 7 years of experience helping middle school, high school, and college students build confidence and master challenging concepts. I earned my Master of Science in Chemistry (2014) and Bachelor of Science in Bioanalytical Chemistry (2012) from Sam Houston State University, with a minor in Biology and a pre-medical academic path. I graduated magna cum laude, completed an ACS-certified program, joined the Honors College, and received Robert A. Welch and Honors Scholarships. In graduate school, I earned another Honors Scholarship and successfully defended my master's thesis.
Since 2018, I've provided one-on-one tutoring privately and through Varsity Tutors (2018–2021). I specialize in Algebra I, Algebra II, General Chemistry, and related math and science subjects. I help with homework, test preparation, and foundational skills, including graphing, factoring, quadratic equations, chemical reactions, and stoichiometry. My work as a chemist at InkJet, Inc. and ChemJet, Inc. also helps me connect classroom lessons to real-world scientific applications.
My teaching approach is patient, encouraging, and tailored to each student's learning style and goals. I identify gaps in understanding, break difficult concepts into manageable steps, and use clear explanations, guided examples, and practice problems. I encourage questions and independent problem-solving rather than simply memorizing answers. My goal is for students to understand not just how to solve a problem, but why the solution works. I also adjust each lesson's speed to match the student's needs.
I love those “aha!” moments when a challenging topic finally clicks! Whether a student needs ongoing support, exam preparation, or a stronger foundation in Chemistry or Algebra, I strive to make lessons engaging and enjoyable. I want students to feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and gaining the skills and confidence to succeed independently.
